Experience with Dr. Gilmer in Michigan

Has anyone had their surgery performed by Dr. Gilmer and if so how was the outcome.  I just heard back from her office and according to her calculations my herniation is actually 8 mm and not 4 mm as measured by the radiologist.  After reading a description of my symptoms she thinks the chiari could be the cause and I would need to be further evaluated during an appointment.  I live far away and am contemplating the trip.  I did meet with Dr. Bolognese and he also thinks my problems are due to the chiari.  He is not pushing surgery, but has offered if my quality of life is suffering.

I know Dr. B doesn't use a patch, he removes the tonsils and stitches the dura back together, at least that is what he would do in my case.  Does anyone know what Dr. Gilmer's typical approach is.

Thanks for any info!

Yes it does sound like another name to add....not sure why the others that had surgery did not add it.....do you have surgery scheduled?

We tend to wait until after surgery and recovery to add a name....just to make sure you are happy with all of the care you get....as we have had some add a name then want it removed....so it is easier to wait.

Keep me posted.

I first discovered Dr. Holly Gilmer doing my own searches trying to figure out what was wrong with me.  I found some of her presentations posted on YouTube and eventually called her office.  The nurses I spoke to were very informative and a pleasure to speak to.  From what I understand she is heading up a chiari clinic at Beaumont Neuroscience in Royal Oak, Michigan.  Although I contacted her office at Michigan Head and Spine Institute in Southfield, MI.

I did search her name on this site and some members have had surgery with her.  Maybe another name to add to the list??

she is from Michigan.

Yes, that was what I meant regarding Dr. B.  That would be what he would do for me.

I am not familiar with that name, is that Dr from NY as well as Dr B?

And as far as saying Dr B would not use a patch or would remove tonsils, could indicate only what he intends for you and does not mean it is a standard of care for everyone.... as I know others that have had him did not have those  things done.....

Not sure there is a typical approach as we are all different.
