Healthy 3 Year Old with Seizures?

My very healthy 3 year olds son recently had a grand mal seizure and is now having drop seizures.  His MRI showed a cerebellar tonsillar ectopia and adenoid and tonsil enlargement.  Does anyone know if this combination could cause a seizure?  Or whether the cerebellar tonsillar ectopia alone could cause a seizure?

Thanks!!

IT would definitely be best to search out a specialist in this case. I am waiting to get in with one this month. I have never had a grand mal seizure but I have been hospitalized for numerous drop seizures. I have been tested for everything under the sun I feel like with no answers with everyone swearing it can't be the chiari. I fell that is what is causing it because as the chiari has progressed so have the seizures but I am hoping for some real answers from the specialist! Best of luck in finding the answer for your son.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

There r documented cases of seizures with chiari...mostly in children.
A true chiari specialist would be best to consult u on this topic, but I have heard of it.

I see u r in Malvern...I am in Allentown....not too far.U may have to travel to get to a true chiari specialist for pediatrics.....I traveled to Philly...and was not impressed and tried a NS locally...no go either....

We do have a thread with a list of drs that the members here have been to and liked, however it does not indicate a pediatric specialist so u do need to research.

I am so sorry ur little guy is  going thru this, but happy to welcome u to our little family here : )
