How is tethered cord diagnosed?

Does this diagnosis show up on MRI?  Or, is it a symptom based diagnosis.  Just wondering.
Thanks!

Hi...there is a questionnaire that helps along with symptoms as many times TC does not show up on a MRI and is considered to be TC occulta...which means hidden.

Most with TC have a sacral dimples....some have a patch of hair.....we all tend to have bowel and bladder issues....leg and lower back pain.....here is a list from the web:

Lesions lower back
Hairy patches on lower back
Dimples on lower back
Fatty tumors on lower back
Foot deformities
Spinal deformities
Weakness in the legs
Lower back pain
Scoliosis
Bladder incontinence
Bowel incontinence
Sensory problems
Motor problems
No early symptoms - some cases remain asymptomatic till adulthood

Here is a link to the questionnaire

TC is diagnosed with MRI however an MRI is suggested if TC is suspected due to symptoms.. Some people have a birth mark in the skin of the lumbar spine as far as I know. Selma I know suffers from TC and will give you more info :)
