I'd like to kill my husband...

I just found out that he never bothered to look into the PPO plan his work offers. We've had the HMO for 13 yrs. He said it was too expensive, the deductibles were too high, and it didn't cover preventive care like the HMO. With 4 kids, the preventive care is a big thing.

I found out from a co-worker of his, that everything he thought is FALSE! Augh! It wouldn't cost us much more/month. Preventive care is covered 100%(yearly check-ups, gyn check-up) and deductible doesn't apply. Oh, and the deductible isnt too bad. Ugh!

If he had bothered to actually look into it, he'd have learned this. If we had switched, I could choose ANY dr. I could go to TCI or WI or dr Di, and it would be covered at 80% with a $3000 max out-of pocket for me, $5000 out of pocket max for my family. That's not that bad! I'm very pissed right now! I will undoubtedly be fighting my HMO all year to get care, only to switch to the PPO next year, if how I've been treated the past 9 months is any indication. Grrrrr!

I know how frustrating insurance can be.  I am a group benefits rep and work with alot of small companies for their health insurance and other benefits.  What might be helpful is to get the name of the person who does that for your husband's company and call them next year and find out your options that way.  I have spouses call me all the time for that reason.  The husbands dont seem to want to give it very much attention.  Good luck and keep pushing.

I'm there with you on the husband thing. I wish he would care more but he doesn't.
Must be nice to live in a healthy body where things like this are of no concern. Must be nice not to have to suffer.
