Is Chiari Decompression surgery related to thyroid problems?

I had decompression surgery in 2011 asking withmy cerebral tonsils taken out. Recently I found out I have vitamin d deficiency but I also have symptoms of Hashimoto's. In still waiting on blood tests results to know for sure if I have a thyroid problem. Has anyone been diagnosed with both or diagnosed with a thyroid problem after surgery?

I had a decompression surgery back in 2014, about 6 months later I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. (Symptoms presented almost immediately after surgery).

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Hashimoto's is a common DX for many with Chiari since we are prone to auto immune disorders  and Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an auto immune thyroid condition. I was DX'd prior to surgery and post op I was taken off the thyroid meds.....not sure if I will ever be put back on it.

Did they test you for it prior to surgery?  It does not show on a typical thyroid panel.

Sorry I'm not sure why I'm just now seeing this but no they did not test me prior. I had my surgery in 2011. Also I just had basically a full thyroid panel and everything was still normal but I have over 30 symptoms.
A regular thyroid panel won't show Hashimoto's as it is an autoimmune thyroid condition.....you need your free T3, free T4 and tpo antibodies looked at as well as TSH...most thyroid blood tests only look at TSH.
