MRI Brain Scan

mr0
My son is having problems and now cardiologist wants to send us to neurologist.  His GP ordered a brain MRI but it came back normal.  Would a regular radiologist diagnose Chiari if he is not looking for it?  I described his symptoms to a friend and she mention Chiari as her friends daughter received that diagnosis.  He is having bradycardia, tired all the time, headaches that make him throw up, render him unconscious, he then comes to but and you know he can hear you but he can't talk or move for at least 5 minutes.  This started in high school and he has had about 6 of these episodes - two in the last two months.  Other than that he just feels bad all the time.  Had to quit his job, is easily winded tired and body aches all the time, light headed, wakes up feeling sick to his stomach in the morning and will not even eat until afternoon he feels so sick in the morning.  This has been going on for two months and doctors can't figure out what is wrong with him.

This could be POTS.....or something along those lines...with a drop attack u do not feel nething b4 had and u just drop...so, it is not that .

But it may be neuro related...did they do a EEG? To see if there was ne seizure activitiy? The curled fingers seem more seizure related...I am not a medical professional and have no idea what type of Drs u have been to, but they r not all the same...so keep pushing for answers.

And if u can get copies of tests done to date...call the facility where the studies were done.

The first time this happened a teacher found him passed out in the bathroom.  He felt really bad but did not know he was going to pass out.  Now he knows that he feels really bad before he passes out.  His head will hurt really bad, he usually will vomit before he passes out.  He now will lay on the floor because he knows what is going to happen.  I found he several times on the floor in the bathroom next to the toilet laying in his vomit.  You can talk to him and you know he can see and hear you but he can't move or talk and his fingertips curl.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum,

Not all radiologists will report on something they were not asked to look for, in my case they did....I was sent to rule out lymes, and MS when the radiologist saw my Chiari....and they stopped and called my Dr and scheduled more MRI's for the next day.

That does not always happen and we suggest everyone having testing and MRI's to request copies of the test and the reports this way u have it and can easily get other opinions.

There r several conditions with similar symptoms as Chiari so they should be ruled out as well as those conditions related to Chiari.....ICP, POTS, Tethered Cord, Syringomyelia, Ehlers-Danlos, disk issues,....

Even vitamin and mineral levels, Vit D, B12, ,magnesium, and potassium,....and thyroid levels for autoimmue issues should be looked at.

May I ask, did ur son pass out or was it different?

Ask him if he felt he was going to pass out or if he felt fine and was aware he was falling but then could not respond,....there is a diff btwn passing out and a drop attack and this is y I asked,
