Morphine allergy

Hi Guys,

Looking at having PDF hopefully by Dr. Oro but everything I read on here is all about Ms and other pain meds.
I had to take hard drugs in the 90's and became severely allergic to everything from Ms to Vicodin; all opiates.
Also to steroids; all of them. My body just rejected them and I ended up with some pretty interesting/frightening
reactions and hospital stays. I was told in '97 not to ever let a doc give me steroids or opiates again.
Good luck having brain surgery w/o them; am I right? Should I even get started with Dr. Oro or do I fall into the tiny %
of no go Chiarians? I am just dismayed at what I read thinking that these drugs will be necessary and they could kill me.

I just had a difficult throat surgery this summer to remove a lg. mass and a chunk of the bottom of my tongue. I've never smoked. I was raised by a chain smoker tho but it wasn't cancer. Anyway, I had it w/o narcotic pain meds after the first 24 hrs. post op. For that amount of time they gave me IV Fentenyl. I was discharged on Darvocet which they told me is just a bit stronger than tylenol. It was 2 1/2 weeks of pure hell but I did recover. With CM surgery it appears to have a very long recovery time. What would you do?

I am waiting for my surgery to be scheduled, but I have a good friend who just had hers in September and did very well afterwards. She was prepared to be in the worst pain of her life and said it wasn't as bad as she thought.  That could just be her pain tolerance but I think if you talk to your dr. you can find the right meds for your recovery. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi, I understand ur concerns, but do see Dr Oro and see what he can suggest. Yes, the recovery time can be long, but everyone is different as to how long they r on pain meds....I know I am still recovering, but I do not take meds and haven't for some time.

I may take tylenol once in a while.....but other than that ....that's it.

I am not an expert as to what is what with meds, and I was told after my knee surgery I had developed anallergy to oxycotin....so that was out....I had morphine for the first time and it made me sick, so I was changed to dalauid (sp?).....

U should check and let the dr decide if there is something that could work for u.
