Nerve Damage?

Hi everyone!
Hope everybody's doing well.
So I am 17 years old, and now round 18 months post op, and all is going well! no complications thank god! :)

my question is about the nerve damage I have obtained....
Although the area's in which are effected have lessened since decompression surgery, (numbness used to be from knee to collar bone on right side, now from hip to collar bone) things stopped getting better around 8 months post op and don't seem to have progressed form there.

has anybody experienced similar symptoms? Does anyone think that my nerves will improve, is there physio or something i can undertake? I really hate having no feeling!
I also got a terrible stabbing pain in my numb side under my ribcage last night, lasting a few hours, i couldn't even move for a while! should i be worried? the pain is pretty much gone now, but theres still a dull pain when i cough etc...

Thank you! :)

thank you very much! that was helpful!
your numbness symptoms sound a lot like mine, minus the tingling.. before the operation, i used to get a horrible pain when i moved in a certain way.. have you experienced anything like that? or do you happen to know if my recent pain has anything to do with nerves coming back?

I shall try the vitamins ect. you have suggested, i am willing to try anything! haha!

and i wasn't given a limit on lifting, only told that no more than a bag of sugar while recovering... my books probably weigh no more than about 5lbs.. then my bag around another 6....

Hello Boo,
I am glad that you are doing well, hooray!!!!!!! It can take two years for your nerves, that is what my doc told me also.  I have numbness and tingling.  For the numbness is is right above my right buttock and lower back, you can say back part of hip.  I can feel the touch but can not tell you what it is.  The tingling goes whever it wants to do.  It can be the tip of my fingers to the tip of my toes.  My doctor told me to take Fish oil and B50 vitamins, I also take gabapintien ( hope spelled right) for my nerves It does help.  Far as your books, what was you limit on lifting mine was 50 lbs at the most.

EDS = ehlers-danlos syndrome is a connective tissue disorder, many have joint hyper-mobility, slow to heal , bruise easy....can also have blue sclara, and many other issues as there r several types of EDS.But it is related to Chiari and many of us with Chiari also have it.....

The running may be an issue and even going to class, depending how many books u carry, and the florescent lights can also bother us and cause dizziness....

Hi! thanks for replying!

I have no idea what EDS is, sorry! so i don't think i do!
I did have a post op MRI,but that was probably around a year ago now...

and I am currently just at college, so it mainly involves sitting around all day.. but a lot of walking up stairs!

Although, i go running about once a fortnight, could that be causing it?

also, yesterday i went swimming for the first time since before my operation...

Hi...it can take up to 2 yrs for the nerves to heal completely and longer if u r like me and have ehlers-danlos....I continued to see improvement up into my 3rd yr post op.

If u do have EDS, it is also possible for some of the issues/symptoms u r feeling to be from that....

U could also have had scar tissue develop....did u have a post op MRI, if so how long ago was it?

What do u do on a daily basis? I wonder if it is an activity u r involved in causing some of the issues too?
