Newly Diagnosed. Back pain?

I was recently diagnosed with Chiari 1 10MM. My symptoms started a little over 2 years ago when I experienced a sudden and unexplained facial paralysis on the left side of my face lasting 2 weeks. The neurologists labeled it as balls palsy and called it a day. Shortly after I began experiencing lower back pain, dizziness, and extreme neck tension. Like many of you, all the doctors said I was 100% fine and basically imagining it. A recent MRI discovered the Chiari. Learning this provided some relief in that the doctors now know I’m not crazy and I can focus on dealing with a known issue.

If it’s not too much trouble can someone help me answer these two questions?

1-Can Chiari lead to lower back pain (sometimes shooting to the knee)? The pain is concentrated right at the end of the spine. MRI shows no low back issues.
2-Does anyone have experience with NS in NYC?

No worries...tethered cord does not always show up on a MRI and a sacral dimple  and an elongated brain stem can indicate this condition when the MRI does not...also a urodynamics test will help if u also have bladder issues.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

May I ask, did u have MRI's of ur lumbar spine as well as the brain MRI, and thoracic and cervical spine MRI's?....U would need this to rule out TC and a syrinx as they can form in the lumbar spine as well as the cervical spine.

I went to The  Chiari Institute in NY...and was pleased with my drs there.
