Okay for stitches to be removed even though I have fluid....

Hi I’m new here, recently had the surgery and I’m due to have my stitches removed on Tuesday. Have a quick question I have fluid next to my incision. My surgeon has confirmed it is normal fluid and nothing serious, it does not bother me at all. But I’m alittle concerned about having my stitches removed since the stitches go through the pocket of fluid? Is this going to cause problems such a leakage? Or should I be okay?

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

How large a pocket of fluid?.....And do  have staples or stitches? Most Drs tend to use staples unless you also have EDS then they may use a glue.....some use an absorbable stitch....but many with EDS tend to reject those......rejection of the stitches could cause fluid to form as well as there being a leak....and in that  case the pocket would grow in size.....so if it is stable and not growing removing the stitches should not be an issue....I would want a topical antibacterial ointment to use t be safe.

Idk how to describe how big it is, it’s not huge and I’m sure it’s smaller then it feels to me. My surgeon told me it’s muscle and fluid and he was not considered at all about it. He told me it was normal, and it’s not causing any discomfort like leaks do, no headaches or anything. It’s been the same size for a few weeks now, not getting bigger. My stitches aren’t the ones that dissolve, they have to be removed on Tuesday. Was thinking maybe it’s some pressure from stitches too since they’ve been in for 3 weeks. But bump defiantly has not gotten bigger so that’s a relief
I am also on Kflex antibiotics just for a precaution
Also, Ice and sometimes heat make it go down alittle bit. I was told not to lay flat.
Yes I stayed in a recliner once home for sleeping to avoid being flat.....so if you can do that , it can help. Do you do any neck exercises to help the muscles relax?
I unfortunately don’t have a recliner so i have just stacked pillows in an angle on the couch, cause I can’t get comfortable in bed, but can get comfy on the couch in an angle. I accidentally slept flat last week one night and woke up to an insanely tight neck, felt like it was gonna pop open with movement. So I learned my lesson....I just turn my neck throughout the day, I don’t have any specific exercises no
Really? WOW.....I was given exercises while still in the hospital and continued to do them once I was home and I believe they really helped me with healing and my ROM post op.
