Sounds like you've been through some terrible times, my heart goes out to you!!! I am sending my thoughts of healing to you. Hoping that they have finally got it right and you never have to have another surgery.
I had a pump with morphine when I had a hysterectomy and I loved it while it lasted. I didn't want to leave the hospital even though I had little ones at home because all was well in my bed, until I accidentally ripped the IV out. They gave me some oral medication which helped but I can't remember the name. Of course I have a feeling what you went through was far more painful.
Something to think about if I ever have to have this surgery! Get well soon!!!
i also slept through the pain pump.... The nurses would wake me up to tell me I haven't pushed it for hours. I think I felt better just sleeping through it all! I'm very glad you're home now. And hope that you start to feel better real soon!
I hope this surgery is the answer for you and you can start to feel better.
My husband pushed the pain pump once and the nurse reprimanded him. It was funny to me, I thought everything was funny on dilaudid.
Sending healing prayers!! We can heal together :) I had the same pump for 3 days every 6 mins but didn't use it like that I was afraid of what the pain would be once I switched to oral med so I kinds just tapered myself. I sure that was horrible to wake up after no meds for pain for 4 hours after a surgery like you had. Curious about your lp shunt when you feel up to it. Anyways sending you my thoughts and prayers lots of good vibes coming your way!!
I have a huge dislike for those pumps....who after this surgery is in their right mind to push a pain pump....the nurses kept doing it for me as I was too out of it to do it...I was sleeping like you....crazy idea to have a patient that is out of it to push a pump of strong meds into them....sigh...just nutz.
Praying this works well for you <3
Hi guys. Thanks! I had a rough first night ... because I was on a PCA pump with dilaudid. I could push it every 8 minutes. Nobody else was allowed to push it. So guess what happens when I slept for 4 hours? I woke up hysterical in the worst pain I've ever experienced. I understand that the pain pumps are better because you can build more up in your system ... but my pain control was broken by sleeping and they gave me a slew of things to try and get it back under control. Including methadone! FIRST for me! Oh my god. it was miserable. Dr Kim told my mom that he could tell my pressure was really high, because when he got the catheter into my ventricle it squirted out like crazy and the general surgeon removed the distal end of the LP shunt because it wasn't flowing. And that I'd have a different type of headache for a while, adjusting to a normal pressure ... he didn't lie there. I spent two nights in neuro ICU and then was released. I am still on percocet for pain and marinol for nausea. I have had some of my most pain free time when shunts are functioning properly ... so here's hoping this one will be no different. There are a couple strange things, but it's so early in recovery that I'm still hopeful. (:
Thanks again for thinking of me! I hope all of you are doing well!
Prayers and warmest wishes to you love!!! I truly hope you will be feeling your very best soon! <3
Many many prayers to you!!!! I look forward to hearing that the surgery is behind you and that you're in a road to a smooth recovery!!! Prayers and through to to you today!
