Pain Management

I had decompressive surgery 6 years after my symptoms of throbbing pain and migranes began. That was 9 years ago, I was a sophomore in highschool and now as my symptoms have not gotten any worse I still live with 24/7 pain. I was on Neurontin for the past 8 years and then last summer I decided to live without loading myself with pills on a daily basis. The meds were not really helping yet it did slow down the muscle spasms. I have tried medical marijuana, and it helps but it is something that I only want to use while I am home and in for the night. Work has gotten more difficult lately, wet rainy weather always makes my pain more intense. In the past week I have gone to a chiropractor and gotten some acupuncture done in the areas that bother me,(left arm, shoulder, neck etc.) and it seemed to help, I go back this afternoon to continue this treatment. Today the pain is bringing me to tears and I was just hoping that I could get some ideas on other options of pain management? I need some help and the doctors around here have been pretty stumped on what I should do. Any suggestions would help! Thank you

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

May I ask u to describe the pain u r having and where it is? I saw muscle spasms, where do u have that  just the left arm, shoulder and neck or...all over, ...do u still have HA's?

Were u checked for Ehlers-danlos? It is a related condition and can cause all over aches and pains.

Also did u have a laminectomy and duraplasty when u had ur surgery?

I am glad to welcome u, sorry for the reason u had to seek us out tho.

I feel like the pain is constant and on bad days it intensifies feeling like stabbing and as it gets more painful that is when the muscles or nerves start to throb and spaz. It it in certain spots on my left side of shoulder blade, back side of left arm, ball of shoulder, back side of fore arm side of left hand under thumb on palm side below pinky on palm side of hand and elbow.
I was not checked for ehlers-danlos. And I am not sure about the operation but I am trying to locate missing information on my procedure.. I know a shunt was put in.
Thank you for responding, today is a bad day and it gives me hope to have some sort of response to my cOndition.

Hi...is the chiropractor doing the acupuncture?...If not,  u really should avoid them as they can do more harm then good if they do not know not to manipulate ur neck and shoulders....

Since u had a shunt, u most likely also had PTC which is too much CSF and the shunt helps to drain it away from the brain.....

U may have scar tissue or the shunt can get blocked, and it sometimes just needs to be adjusted to the right flow.....

Yes around here there is no abundance in Dr's who practice accupuncture . I have only gone a few times and it does not make a huge difference yet it seemed to help more before the surgery.

Yes the pain is caused from permanent damage . The fluid expanded my spine and it effected my left side, I was lucky it didn't spread the the right side before my operation. But mainly being left handed has not helped ease the pain. I also get slight pain in my left side of jaw but my eye is not bothered. I am sorry yours is :-/ thank you for the encouragement!
