Pediatric Neurosurgeons in NY - Dr. Goodrich?

Does any other Chiarian on this forum see the Neurosurgeon Dr. Goodrich in CHAM (Childrens Hospital At Montifiore) and if so are you happy with him? My 7-yo daughter has been seeing him for 2 years now on a wait-and-see basis since her 1cm diagnosis. She has multiple neuro symptoms that he says are not related to her Chiari. She has a PT who recently found a positive Babinski reflex in both her feet, though more pronounce in her right, and wants her to find a new Neurologist as well (the last neurologist, Dr. Yoshimi Sogawa ALSO with CHAM,  brushed my daughter off twice now). Put a call into Dr. G to see if it could possibly be Chiari-related.....still waiting to hear back.
So about Dr. James Goodrich.... I'm not sure we should stay with him, I know of his accomplishments but am looking for other patients first-hand experience with him. Anyone have any commments good or otherwise? Thanks for your time.

Yes, I do know, I had my surgery with the drs at TCI and I am glad I did, yes the NS does not work with insurance, but the hospital does and so does the NL.

I am sure if u let us ins know that they r an authority on ur DD's condition and appeal to them to cover the cost u should be ok.

I would much rather work out a payment plan with a dr I trust, then have a dr that works with my ins that I do not trust.....and from what I understand most chiari NS's do not work with ins.....there are some, but there r more than just TCI that do not.

Call ur ins and see if they will work with them....it never hurts to ask.......

Hi Selma, thanks for responding. I have been on and off of here since my daughter was diagnosed; looking for answers, so I have been a silent member of this community and now feel the need to ask because I have quitely (and one-sidedly) gotten to know some of you and respect your opinions.
I have never seen his name come up.

And unfortunely the only other Dr.'s listed within driving distance are the Institute Docs. Not sure how many know this but the Chiari Institute does not take any health insurance at all. It's a pay out of pocket and try your hardest to get back what you can from your insurance type of place. I have also researched many of the doctors there and was amazed at some of the articles I found on them...left me uneasy.

We are left pretty much to our own devices in regards to an A-1 top notch specialist and so far are coming along okay....but I want more than okay for my daughter, and am actively seeking the best I can get for her. Was really hoping someone out there knew of Goodrich and sung his praises so I would be completely satisfied with him. Don't think I'm gonna find anyone like that though. :(

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Most of the members here is they have been to a chiari dr they like add them to a list we have to help others when they r researching drs.....Dr G is not on our list as of now, so I am not sure there is a member here that went to him and liked him.

Here is the link to the list, it is not meant as a referral, but a means to help u with ur research-http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Chiari-Malformation/LIST-OF-CHIARI-SPECIALISTS/show/1503562
