Possible chiari

Hi y'all. I am a 23 year old female in Ohio. I went to my pcp last week after experiencing a crushing headache to the point of almost taking myself to the ER. A year ago I had a ct done after experiencing what was called an ocular migraine at the time. I was told my scan was normal and thought nothing more of it. However at my Dr apt this past week i was informed that my scan showed an enlargement of cerabellar tonsils. My pcp immediately decided to refer me to a neurologist. He is a DO rather than an MD. I have had 3 of these crushing headaches in the last week. Also arm weakness and tingling. I have always had dizziness issues I often equivalted to inner ear issues. I have been having issues with fine motor skills, lack of sex drive, and speech issues where I feel as if I am tongue tied with occasional bouts of slurred speech. I have an apt on Wednesday the 11th. Also my mother was diagnosed with MS 13 years ago. Any advice or questions I should be asking or what I should prepare for?
Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.
For future reference always ask for copies of any and ALL testing you have...reports, CDs etc....
Many times Chiari is overlooked and deemed incidential.

A NL just will do more testing which is what you need at this point....we need ALL related and non related conditions such as S, Lymes, Lypus ruled out since the symptoms are similar. AND as for the related conditions Syringomyelia, tethered cord,ICP, POTS,sleep apnea, retroflexed odontoid, basilar invagnation,CCI, Hashimoto's thyroiditis...and a few I am missing I am sure....so you will want more MRI's brain, cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine as well as a CINE MRI to check for an obstruction to CSF flow....and they will check to see how large a herniation you have.It is not always that you have a herniation or that one is long that is troublesome....but if it is causing an obstruction to CSF flow or a compression of the brain stem or spinal cord.
Finding the right Dr is KEY !! That is the NS....if you find you need one.....not everyone is a surgical candidate .

Take this slow and educate yourself on Chiari and ALL related conditions so you will be able to select the right Dr for you.
