Post-surgery meds?

Hi everyone. I'm scheduled to get my surgery in less than 2 months on May 17th (prayers are appreciated) and I'm nervous about the pain meds afterward. I'm going to be on morphine and I've never had surgery before or ever taken any pain medicine stronger than over-the-counter. I've heard a lot of people react badly to the meds, can anyone who has had surgery tell me about their experience?
Thank you all, God bless.

I can tell you I did it  as I do remember, but it was not as bad as it could have been..since I was medicated it did not cause me pain or anything one might expect....

If you do experience vomiting make sure you have a family member there advocate they check the pain meds.....

Hi...please add your surgery date on the surgery date thread and a Prayer Thread will be posted.....

I had surgery in fact I had a few in just 2 years time....and each time I had an issue with pain meds....but I was told that problem is due to me also having EDS, which is yet another reason to rule that out before surgery so if an issue arises they can act quickly. Ruling out EDS also helps with determining which dura patch the Dr should use.....

The meds that finally worked well for me was a combo of valium and dilaudid.

For my decompression I was given morphine and was sick for several days vomiting....for a ankle surgery I was given hydrocodone and was itchy all over inside...I thought I would go mad scratching an itch I could not reach....and I had a knee surgery before the decompression and was given morphine with no side effects or issues..and it was only 6 months earlier....so it is odd how these issues change.

Do you have EDS as well?

Hi Selma, thanks so much for your response. I do not believe I have EDS, so hopefully that will help my recovery. I am nervous about potential vomiting right after surgery though...that does not sound fun
