Spine burns

So Ok remember those issues i was having with my neck and shoulder all from a car ride? well i was in PT for oh 2 mths and just recently(bout 2 wks) stopped PT guy says its not helping so why pay for something that isnt working,.. Well in the last week I have this burning feeling in my spine (upper part of the spine-just a bit below where the bra line is and burns a bit more to the right of the spine then left or center) and am wondering what it is and if anyone else is experiencing it? I go to see my PCP tomorrow and i will tell him about it but am curious if its something that anyone else feels....

I would push to get a MRI of your spine...that is a pretty standard thing to be done when dx with Chiari. That is the first thing my NS ordered when he gave me the dx. They need to look at your spine to rule out a syrinx formation and they should also be looking for any other causes of spinal compression.

Do you have a NS that you are seeing (sorry can't remember)? I wouldn't leave getting tests ordered to your GP..a NS will know what needs to be done.

Just tell them how much pain you are in and that you are concerned that there is something wrong.

Get a copy of the reports!! I can't say that enough!

OMG!!! Others with that burning feeling in the spine....the drs look at me like some quack trying to describe the burning feeling. Mine burns from the neck down my whole spine. more so in certain spots but my whole spine is on fire some days....today being one of them. I was told from quite a few drs. that I have disc degeneration in my neck and spine. So that may be an issue.

just_keep_swimming....keep pushing your drs to get the test done that will help you. Thats the only way I got to where I am at now. They don't know your body like you do. Who knows....it may tell you something that you need to know or at least make some sense.

I too have had this burning sensation in the middle of my back.. the exact place you describe. I have never had an MRI of my spine and am worried what it could be. I called my primary yesterday and asked to have an MRI of my spine and she said she doesnt think its necessary at this time as it doesnt measure the CSF pressure???? Why do I need to twist the Drs arm to get anything that I feel is in my best interest done!!?? Does anyone know if I should push harder or do u think the MRI wouldnt matter with this burning issue? Thank you all!!

Lisa...do not go by reports like Carolyn said, how many times have we come across an old report and it does not match a current one or find out something we were never told about?

Just like chiari some drs and radiologists feel it is an incidental finding....I am sure the cavernoma Carolyn mentioned was described the same way.

Push for answers and hang in there : )

Well I know about conflicting reports too...I finally got copies from most of my old ones and there is a world of conflict on them...pretty scary actually. What is really annoying is that if you don't get copies of your reports, you wouldn't even know about this stuff!!

I just got my appt with the physiatrist that I was talking to you about b4..for the middle of July...so I guess I will see what they have to say.

makes perfect sense Dani....yeah when i do things it burns more then when i dont but when i dont i swear the burning almost feels more intense...deeper like i dunno how to explain it exactly----- some one said it might be nerve damnage-- Ugh just makes ya wondr how in the heck can a ride in a car cause so many issues... ERGH!

Thanks Ray-- I started celebrating already LOL ;) i notice it more so in my spine but have felt that burning pain in my shoulder like the round of the blade and i noticed when i stand the blade seems to poke out more the other side doesnt do this..

the pain mgmt girl said something about injection and i was like ummm no he didnt say anything but if that what they are thinking i dunno what iam gonna do because having someone just poke at my neck caused me more issues wth is a needle going to do? kinda scared about that--- but wont freak out til i hear the words come from their mouths LOL..

have a great day all!

I get the burning pain in both my shoulder blades and all the way down my spine. The Hubby rubs it. It is hard to explain....but....it hurts but feels good. That makes no sense when I tell people, I know.
Anyway, I have noticed that when I do too much, it hurts much worse. So take it easy.

I get burning pain and cramps (right side) from my shoulder blade down my back and under my arm, burning pain is usually a nerve thing. I hope you can get to see the pain managment team soon.
Happy Birthday, I hope you enjoy the day :)

The place you describe your pain is where I have trouble with mine too. I recently found out (when I requested the reports) that I have disc dessication in that spot as well as an "incidental" cavernous hemangioma. I am certain that the pain is being caused by the disc problem...as for the other...I'm not sure about that one yet..I am hoping to hear from someone soon with an appt. I get that burning feeling all the time there and then in another spot in my neck..which now I have found out that I have signs of OA. All which wasn't told to me..so you might want to do some digging.
