Stabbing headpain/very sore scalp/vomitting

I was @ the neurosurgeons awhile back and although at that time he said I didn't warrant surgery at the time if I felt the same/or worse (continued) that I could come back. So I made an appointment recently. Well my appointment is for the 30th of June. My headaches have been increasingly worse as with my neck pain & face pain. I cannot sneeze or cough without it causing tears practically. Thursday I awoke with severe stabbing pains (in which I have never had this type of pain before). The pain is on my right side of my head. They were coming frequently lasting from maybe 5 seconds (a few) to the longest being 5 minutes. They would last that long but at times being only a break of a minute or 2 before the next began sometimes a break of 10 minutes or more. I tried everything to get them to leave. I was prescribed an antiamflammatory and some melatonin from my primary doctor (as I told him my appt with the neuro was not for a few weeks). Well the pain worsened and I began vomitting (the nausea stayed with me). I went to the ER urged by my husband.

Our Hospital sent me by ambulance to OSU. They thought it required a neurosurgeon to look at me. I was there for a small amount of observation over several hours. Anyway, I was still having severe pains and the medication really did not help it and neither did the anti nausea med. I still threw up on my way home from the hospital.

I was told while there from the doctor and surgeon to come back or call if it did not get better or if even worse...and to KEEP MY FOLLOW-UP with my neurosurgeon. So I did but I called in to the office to see if I needed to come in sooner to let him know it is not better and I still continue to vomit. I soon rec'd a call from his nurse. She left me in tears...I do not feel well and I am in pain and sick. I was very upset as I got off the phone with her. She told me that there was nothing he can do for me. That I am released from him. Lori the receptionist looked at my notes and hospital notes and didn't see a thing about being released from his care. The nurse said I do not need to come back. She was very rude.

So I am confused that I was told by him that I could come back but yet she told me not to bother coming back. It was nearly 2 years ago and I know that he said that sometimes the surgery has to be repeated. When at Cleveland the one doctor who is not longer practicing there told me that maybe a repeat surgery would be in my best interest but I had to talk to Dr. M. He said that it looked to be I think his words were: the cerebellar tonsils protruding and crowded, something like that with those words, he said that I have chiari and that it can cause the symptoms I have. That it was but I had to talk to Dr. M, it seems other neurosurgeons do not like to touch another doctors work unless they have to.

I go to Cleveland for cardiology, neurology, and ent. The ENT said he doesn't think I have sinus issues bothering me. :( He is supposed to be the best. Idk. Anyway, I had the probl with neurology there. But the neurosurgeon office this happened at was at OSU. :( The neuro's at cleveland said they wouldn't do surgery wouldn't feel comfortable touching another surgeons work - said too dangerous. I haven't got to see Dr.Di. Oh how I would love to. I don't know how to go about doing that. Any ideas - w/o getting a referrel?  I would get another mri at cleveland for sure - the radiologists are good! No kidding. They saw stuff and was concerned about it and actually gave names but no neuro was concerned yet. I guess they had nothing to compare too. I so wish I could talk to a radiologist and ask some questions but I haven't been able to.

I have this pressure in my lower spine - it is soooo bothersome. A girl who works with OSU (resident dr.) said I need to talk to a neuro she thinks that is from the chiari and pressure (something like that).

i know my daughters orthopedic surgeon scheduled my daughter to see dr.di and got her in with in a couple weeks.i would definately try 2 see if you could get appt, with him.i am concerned on who the dr is who canceled like that on you.i have recieved many attitudes from cleveland clinic nurses myself.one was mad cause i didn't agree with 2 nuerologist and wanted to see a different one.and said if i switched that the other ones wouldn't see her again.i have to say i had a huge not in my throat worried that the next dr. might not be better.but it worked out.the other 2 wouldn't do a mri or anything.it was the 3rd that did the mri and found she had cp with the cm.i am glad i tried.while waiting to see the nuerosuergeon i would definately talk 2 dr about getting mri done maybe they can get a sooner date 2 see the dr if they find something.good luck

Hi...sounds like sinus drainage...it will cause everything u mentioned including the salt taste.....call ur dr for a good nasal spray or a check up, but it does sound like sinus from either pollen and is growing into an infection.

In the meantime try those shower soothers...u place on the floor and they mix with the steam to help unclog u....

This morning I awoke (my other above has been going on for 2 weeks now) but this morning I awoke with all leftsided: nose congestion, ear clogged (some pain) and left side sore throat, and every time I sneeze or bend over or walk the pain in the head is excruciating and when I get sick (nice way to put it to not gross you out)!! OMG! I am telling you I just can't stand it. On top of all that I have this weird taste of like salt! It is strange. There is just weird taste and the dranage is salt like.  I haven't eaten anything latelyt that should cause it. I have an appt with my primary doctor today for follow up for last week, what should I do? What shoud I tell him? How should I put it? Should I demand certain tests? I am scared! Thanks so much.

There r always some rude person we seem to have to deal with...each and every chiarian has a story similar to this....and I mean the meanness and uncaring attitude...it is so disheartening.....

Try to relax and forget about him as this can bring on a flare for u and I am sure he has forgotten all about u....so do not let him inflict nemore pain...forget him.

If u feel it is an emergency, then by all means go....if u can deal with it, then do that...u know ur body and no one, NO ONE can say how u feel is not an emergency.

Please let us know if u get those meds straightened out.

I am going to try to get into a Chiari Doctor but I know it takes a month or 2 to get into neuros. I am still pretty sick. My doctor's office called in the wrong prescription...my primary...she can't get it straight.  I told her 2 times. ugh...

Then when on Cleveland Clnic's facebook page they had something on there and I mentioned how great they are and may end up at the ER well some guy (and I don't care if he is a benefactor for them or not) said something rude to me He said ER's are for Emergencies only.  So this is what I said (don't mess with a sick girl):

"2 the guy who said: ER'S ARE FOR EMERGENCIES: I'll bet if his heart rate was changing and going up to 200, 172, 140 and back up he'd be going to the Emergency room and not schedule out an appointment and it take a month to get into...I am sure he wouldn't wait to die. Should I mention I passed out already this week. I went to the ER (oh it wasn't... See More ... an emergency though was it? Shame on me. It is only for accident victims. They told me to COME BACK if my symptoms continued!!! My primary doc told me to go to the ER too. Or if he had severe stabbing pains in his head and vomitting that won't stop!"

Oh he angered me something fierce! I hate ppl like that! So anyway that is what I said in retaliation to him! He don't know what is wrong with me nor my symptoms and has no right to tell me to stay out of the ER bec it is not for people like me!

I am sooooooo sorry u r feeling so badly today.

It deff sounds like u r having an issue with ur CSF is an issue....

I can only suggest that u rest and try to relax.

There is a good chiari dr in Ohio...Dr Di....can u try to get in to see him? What does ur PCP say?

I can't imagine that ur drs do not understand that u need to be seen.

Can u try a soak in a warm tub...something that will really relax u?

They checked for thyroid but it came out okay.  My NS is supposively a chiari doctor. I fit the questionairre for tethered cord and had planned to take it with me but the nurse cancelled my appt on me! I have an email ready to go to the doctor.  Since it is his name on the email address I hope he is the only one who reads them.

I can hardly be on here today. I am much much worse, I am REALLLLLYYY sick.  I don't feel right.  I feel as though I could pass out at any time.  I just don't feel myself even my regular sick self I feel so much worse.  My head don't feel right at all. I don't know what to do. My head is in pain but I doubt my doctor prescribes my pain med.  And actually right now I don't even care about it because I am feeling so awful.  I feel like death is coming over me.  I have never said that before but it does.  I am really scared.  Our hospital here in town is horrible and I am scared to go there anyway.  They have misdiagnosed so many ppl it isnt funny.  Ppl have died in the waiting room and they have sent ppl home saying they are fine and the ppl die at home.  Bad bad hospital.  Idk what to do.  I need to take my toprol for my tachycardia but I am scared to do that make me worse.

Hi Welcome back....I have wondered how u were...did u ever find out if u have TC or not....it could be the reason u r still having issues.

I can not remember  if ur NS was a chiari dr or not....but do not understand how the nurse could make the calls on this while on the phone. How would she know if u had a new issue or not.

U deff need to be seen and seems u may want to contact a diff dr that is a chiari dr to be reviewed. When was ur last MRI?

Also, did u have blood work done....do u know if they checked u for a thyroid issue?

I am so sorry u r still having these issues and that u had a medical personnel that did not offer help or kindness.

I'm so sorry...the way you are being treated is absolutely horrible...

I wouldn't even want to go back to that NS now..if you can move on to a new one I would do so asap.

I am confused too...so the NS told you to come back and so now you make the appt..and then now they are saying don't come back? So do you have an appt on the 30th or not?

Either way, the symptoms  you are experiencing are not normal and you need to be seen by someone!!

I hope you get it worked out soon!

Here are my current symptoms:

vomitting
nausea (when not vomitting)
sore scalp
stabbing pains in head
sore neck
migranes
numbness/tingling sweating in both hands & feet
some weakness
dizzyness/ lightheaded
tachycardia (big time palps)

I can't stand it much longer and need something done.  OSU said I wasn't on a good pain management program and said I need to be so they prescribed me percocet for 5 -10 days. I just called my primary to ask for a refill but um...I doubt he does. He is being non cooperative.

those are my current symptoms
