Thought you might all enjoy this :

So, today I had to go to the pcp and get yet another refferal to a NEW NL. So, after I have sat there for 1 1/2 hrs. ...giving me plenty of time to make a list of things for him to discuss with me...I walked in and said "So, Dr. E. can you tell me why the back of my head from my ear to my neck on the left side is a painful numb? It's been like this since last night."
Dr. E - " Well lets see why you are here today first."

Me- "Ok, I am here for my NL refferal."
Dr. E. " Oh...and have we talked about you seeing a NL before?" (with a CONFUSED face)
Me- " yep. "
Dr. E. " Well, can you remind me why WE are seeing a specialist?" (ok...didnt know he was coming to the NL with me)( as he looks for the MRI)
Me- " The ha's and the ...."
Dr. E. "Chiari"
Me- "yep ...thats why. I feel worse and worse"
Dr.E. "Okay...here is your refferal, and to answer your ? about the numb head...I am MORE than certain the Chiari is the cause of most of your terrible symptoms like your ha's and dropping things and numbness etc.....and I am sure that if your head is numb that there is some type of blockage of fluid back there."
Me- " OMG !!!! You finally said that my Chiari is causing the problems...Can  I record that please for further reference and for my online support group?"
Dr. E - (terribly speecless and confused looking) " Well yes...if that is what would make you feel better...though I have to say that I don't see why you are so ecxited about something that is hindering your life and causing you so much  pain."
Me- " I'm not excited that I have Chiari...I am excited that you finally gave the Chiari it's due credit."
Dr. E- " Well after your appt on the 9th I did a little more research on the subject(WOW ...HE DID WHAT ???) and after reviewing your chart I realized that it was a much more severe case than I originally thought. My apologies.(HE APOLOGIZED ))))))))
Me- " thank you Dr. E. and I'll see you later." ( WOOOOO-HOOOOOOO)

I could not wait to get home and share this with you all. Nobody else will understand the excitement I feel right now!
I mean really...who else besides us Chiari people actually would be totally thrilled to hear the doc confirm a terrible dx. was worse than he originally thought??? Anyway, what a great step  in the right direction...he reffered me to a friend of his and actually called the NL on his cell right there in front of me to let him know that my appt was urgent and that I needed to be seen by the end of THIS week !!!

I also wanted to add that without the support and strong minded influence of this group I may not have had the courage to go in there today and get what I needed. I have been trying to tell him this for two years. I join this group and only a month later, I am finally getting somewhere.

So to ALL of you : THANK YOU from the bottom of my <3

I know. I mean the dr. that originally dx'd me almost 2years ago dismissed me the same day she told me of the dx. b/c she said she was in over her head. Dr. E. is actually my pain specialist I see every month b/c my reg. pcp said my pain he could not treat. Well, after battling the other pcp for almost a month just trying to get a refferal...I FIRED him....and since Dr. E. also has a general practice he was able to see me the day after I called for an appt. for a $25.00 fee. So, I have now transferred to him as my pcp. I have to admit that when he apologized...I think my jaw dropped. I did thank him for taking the time to actually do some research. He said that he always knew of the Chiari...but that when he did this research he couldnt believe what he had missed with me in the last 2 yrs that I have been seeing him. I told him that I respected  him very much for actually taking it upon himself to learn more, and that if more dr.'s did what he did that so many people would not have such a long wait before something was done.
TY all for sharing my excitement with me, and to my suprise my hubby was much more excited than I originally thought he would be and it turns out ...he did a little research of his own :)
