Traveling home after surgery: the logistics

Hi all! I will be having decompression surgery on 6/4 5 hours away from home out of state. I'll be staying near the hospital where I'm having my surgery until my staples are removed and I'm "cleared" to leave town (anticipated to be 10 days post op). I'm assuming others have gone thru this but I'm wondering about the logistics of traveling the 5 hours home after surgery with the "lay flat for 30 minutes every 30 minutes you're up" rule. I do NOT want the spinal headache. However...the only thing my loved ones and I can figure is my laying across the back seat with my knees bent when I'm needing to lay flat. Is this ok?? Any advice on travel logistics would be so greatly appreciated!

Thank you all!

Megan

Hi ...I too went out of state for my surgery it was a 3 hour drive for us...and I was in the hospital for 5 days and  was able to cope with the ride sitting in the front passengar seat with the seat reclined but using a big fluffy pillow that had me more upright then flat....and I was ok......the pillow helped keep my head from bobbling all around on the bumpy roads.

I am sure when your Dr releases you to drive home, the laying flat rule is ok to omit until home. The rule pertains to being up and walking not so much the reclined position so you should be fine.
