Tripping over my own two feet

How does anyone else with this problem deal with it? Do you get a headache after tripping, just from the jolt of tensing up? I am so afraid to walk up stairs since I seem to be the only person around who can fall "up" stairs. I tripped up the 2 steps into my house and now my head is on the way to another really bad headache. Today is on its way to being no so good. I am not even sure how I tripped, I was walking fine (so I thought)...got up from chair on porch, turned, took 4-6 steps to stairs and then the next thing I know I am catching my self on the door jam with my forearm...OUCH!  The positive side...never made contact with the ground and my forearm isn't broken!

Some tricks on walking issues. When making a turn in walking, do a u-turn instead of pivoting. Up and down steps, look at your feet when doing this, hold onto the handrails, or use the wall for one hand, but both hands on something for guidance and support.

There is a mental process, which name I forget, when the feet and hands will walk automatically or reach for something without having to look in order to make contact with the object. When reinforced by looking at the object, success in walking, reaching, picking up objects is obtained at a better rate

Check about doing "Fall Prevention" therapy. I wasn't skeptical when they put me in it, but it really helped.

hehehe....my whole life I have had "clumsy" problems....always the one to be picked on. I have pretty small feet, size 6 and somedays feel like they are a size 20! They're always in the way. My husband also picks (sometimes unrelentlessly) on my coordination issues. I have to laugh and try and picture myself through other peoples eyes. It must be a funny sight to watch someone who can't make the simpest walks or turn without leaning, tripping, falling...ect.

Guess I just have to follow SelmaS advice and move like the doctor is watching...lol

Same here...I walk with a cane for almost 10 yrs and it still doesn't help.....I believe it is the small turns.....I had a hard time explaing to the drs about the unbalance issues when they have u walk straight for a few steps and u r focused on it and what it is like when u r not so focused....just the act of turning in a small space with something other than what u r doing on ur mind can cause the imbalance.....

the headache is mostlikely from both.....the tensing up or the jolt.

All I can tell u is always move like the dr is watching u...lol....
