Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.
This is an older thread and we do have a new one started...and it is posted in the Chiari forum on Wednesday's.....
May I ask when u were dx'd with chiari and what limitations u have with exercise that u may need help with in losing weight?
Fabulous!!! Keep up the great work, I have not been brave to get on a scale, but I have been in my sisters pool jogging around....and I am hoping it will help me start to lose.
i stepped up my game at the gym and i am 199 lbs now
I really do not feel depressed to that degree....I am happy most of the time, and if I were to sit and focus on all the things I could not and can not do, then mayb I would be more depressed...but, once I found a Dr and a dx I was ecstatic....the worst was not knowing and my weight was up and down....I am heavier now ....
So for me, that does not follow that logic, for many others here it may....something to consider, but there r so many that do not feel depressed except about the medical profession listening.,..???
i was wondering if that the depresion we all suffer from chiari and the wonderfull life we were delt has anything to do with not beeing able to loose this weight. i know we are all limited to what we can do, ut depresion can cause weight gain
May I ask, r the thyroid reg thyroid testing or for an auto immune thyroid issue?...Just testing TSH may appear "normal"...ask about the free T3 and free T4 and TPO antibodies along with TSH....
U may also ask about having ut thyroid ultrasound done, as it may show nodules indicating an autoimmune thyroid condition known as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, many of us have it and we can go btwn being hyper to hypo with very quick weight gains...trust me I know as I do have it....
Sit ups r really no good...do try walking in a pool as u have the resistance of the water u r walking against.,..and u can try a recumbent bike....
I also know how u feel , I went from people at work calling me skinny to being called fat...ugh...(nasty customer) but regardless,...it was a fast change in weight and no change in diet or amount of activity I had at the time, so I know now even with my activity level being lowered it is not the reason for not being able to drop weight....my thyroid is.....
I hate to admit since last July I have went from a size 3 to a 13! I have pics posted where I am mid weight. I started with 110-115 to 140! I almost fell off the scales. They have tested all my thyroids & it came up just a little low. I do try to walk but since I have started having so many issues with my legs & feet I am unable to walk alot. Ive tried doing small sit ups didnt work due to the pulling of the head. Its all in my butt, thighs & breast., I dont have belly fat. I eat really healthy. Any ideas?
Congratulations !!!
I am at a plateau as well....and hoping to lose weight this summer....
So glad u r able to work out at a gym and get those results : )
whoo hoo i got to 201 lbs !!!! no more 203 platue i got the cortizone shot in my lower back and it helped so i stepped up me game at the gym and lost 2lbs
I am headed out to swim...and bumping this for a newbie : )
Hi All I know as the warn weather creeps in we drift further from our computers, so I am hoping u all u busy swimming and walking and doing safe activities....
How is everyone this week, are we still moving?
Well inches r more important then weight as muscle is heavier then fat...so if u work out u r building muscle, so the # on the scale may not be moving, but if u r getting toned and losing inches that is fantastic : )
i have to smile when i read your note. last year was the first time i put on a bathing suit in 20 yrs, and it was for my grandaughter. she is 2 yrs old and she informed her mother the other day i was comming to get her so we could go swimming your right there is alot of material lol
i had thyroid cancer and it was removed. i am on synthroid. i am in severe pain in my back so i am limited at the gym. i walk for 30 - 40 min i do some leg exercise some stomach and the bike for 2 miles. i have 2 eggs and 2 pcs of wheat toast for breakfast, a turkey or low cal meat for lunch and a small portion for dinner, in between i have fruit or a yogurt. i see inches dropping but not weight.
Hi...well it still may many with chiari also have an auto immune thyroid condition called Hashimoto's, u can be hyper or hypo or switch btwn the 2.
U could very well be hyper...and y u do not gain...I have gone btwn the 2, lost weight and was "skinny" and then was considered "fat"...all on the same diet and activity levels and my blood labs showed normal for thyroid function, u really need a full lab work up to include a thyroid ultra sound, and in addition to the TSH labs u need free T3 and free T4 and TPO antibodies....
But this can account for ur weight or lack of....
Well I definitely misunderstood something I read somewhere...I thought my being underweight was a Chiari symptom, but if people are trying to lose weight it must be different for everyone. I thought I finally had an explanation as to why I am 5'5" and only about 106-108lbs soaking wet. I am not that active, I don't exercise, it hurts to move and I have no energy. The only 'exercise' I get is chasing my little ones around and the once maybe twice a week I run errands, if that. Some weeks I don't do anything at all and just have my hubby pick stuff up that we need on his way home from work. I am disheartened now because I thought that maybe I would actually gain some weight post-op. I think something just got mixed up in my head, which isn't hard to do for me; I can't remember a time when I wasn't easily confused. Sorry I just realized I was rambling off on random stuff so I'll just stop typing now lol.
You're perfectly right. Everyone is perfect in theire verry own way.
Its amazing how each and everyone of us is so unique, and perfect in our own way - no one elses perfect with be someone elses perfect - and everyone is beautiful regardless of how their built. Sometimes that justs blows my mind - everyone is perfect in who they are.
Well I'll be wooping when my scale hit 190 lbs! I havent been this size since 10 th grade! Even if I'm short 5 feet, I'm muscular build and big boned. The nutritionist told me that 155 lbs would be perfect! I have a lot of work to get there, since I'm over 200 lbs :(
It is a strange sensation at the time I did not have my Chiari dx, knowing u have it as well as other issues, u may think something is wrong...when it is not, this happens to everyone....lol...again a very weird sensation.
