What about sugars, bread, pasta, dairy kind of stuff?
Have you ever heard of Quinoa...you should eat quinoa...everyone should quinoa...im eating it right now!!! I loove it.
AS far as what I eat, I cut out red meat as I was told my cholesterol was getting up there, and that was yrs b4 I was told that I lost my taste for it, plus I felt I was having issues digesting it.....I was dx'd with IBS from as long as I can remember ....
I eat brown and wild rice, use EVOO, no fried or deep fried foods bcuz of my GERD, so I also stay away from overly spicy foods too, not much soda, mayb for a birthday or special occasion, otherwise I drink water....
I eat a lot of fruit....I make sure I get a balance of protein and carbs...
I love fish, haddock, salmon...and love it on the grill....
When I eat bread it is whole wheat or multi grains....again it is almost 30 yrs of eating like this...
I love pastry and stuff like that, but only have on specialist occasions....I also love chocolate, dark chocolate, but I only have on occasions and small amounts when I do.
When my DH brings home soda, I call it Holiday rootbeer...lol...as it is something special and not a daily thing...as it was when I was growing up, my parents did not allow us to have it,...so, it is not something that is hard for me to do....
Funny u should say that, but I did find, my body does not absorb vitamins and nutrients like it should, much is my GERD dx and the other EDS both Chiari related....
Plus, I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis which I have been heavy, and then skinny and never changed nething....so strange....
Perhaps it depends what the portions are of?
I have sometimes wondered if Chiari effects some of us in a way that makes it difficult for our bodies to absorb/digest certain things....
I am both lactose and gluten intolerant....but my body does not react the way most people with those intolerance's do...for example before I went off dairy, whenever I would eat it I would get these sharp shooting pain up and down my spine (although I also had the typical reaction of horrible gas as well...)....it felt like I was dying, and I did not connect the dots for MONTHS. Now however my bodies reaction is to purge it...also, if because of exess pressure on our brains, and stuff, I am willing to bet that things such as our metabolic rate are sometimes effected...some of us may need less food than the rest of society, of course, we need to make sure we eat well, and eat healthy.
I did a "Daniel fast" back in April (a partial fast from the book of Daniel of the bible) and was shocked - I lost like 7 lbs in less than a week. After which I decided I needed to take a serious look at what I was eating, and change it better.
While I haven't kept doing the fast since then, I have been being extremely careful (with a couple minor exceptions) about what I eat....I am happy to report that I have lost another 4 lbs!
May I inquire as to what your diet looks like...or is that a question that is not appropriate to ask?
This did start off with diets and then exercises were requested,.but u r so right....we should also chat about eating and portion control....
I also have GERD, so I was told to eat more meals but smaller meals to help with my digestion, I do not get hungry that often and it does not matter if I eat small portions.....not sure y, but, I do not lose weight either....I gained....it is frustrating....
In Thursdays recipe trade we can also add recipes that are good if u r counting calories....I added a cake that weight watchers approves.....
We talk a lot about simple exercises here, but Im wondering if we should focus a bit more in eating...just was what, portion size, when....etc....
The reason I am thinking we should maybe emphasize this a bit more is because over the last number of months my symptoms have been getting worse and its been getting harder and harder for me to exercise, so I have been exercising less.....yet I have lost about 12(ish) lbs since December, and it is mainly due to changing my eating habits...
not to say that exercise is not important, i firmly believe it is.
