What are the visual symtoms of Chairi

My daughter has congenital scoliosis, seems fatigued everyday. Now has depression with withdrawal and suffers
from panic attacks. She is age 38, She has mid eye abnormalities that require prednisone injections at flare-up time,
She has been what I call non-motivated to help herself for years. As a mother of her when she was teen I increased
visits to appropriate counselors and encouragad her to attend several different schools with programs she expressed an interest in but poor results. Yes she has seen psychiatrists and been on a number of antidepressants.

I am stumped by my inability to guide her to a healthy adult life, Someone on the forum mentioned a history of tonsil problems, and eye symptoms with Chairi. She has never been to a neurologist. Her life became complicated
after a fall in which she struck her head and neck area. The scoliosis was evaluated around age 9 and she was given an exercise plan. She is extremely dependent and smart as a fox in getting others to help her in activities of daily living. She does well with cooking and cleaning etc., no job.

As for myself I know I tried averything a mother could have done back in the 80s and early 90s. After much ado the school placed her in the special needs classes at age 10. I guess I was under a miss impression that delayed development was at fault for many of my daughter's symptoms. She is now researching her own problems and
we communicate about that. I have sent her this website and others when she asks for help.

Thanks for these posts about Chiari Malfunction. This is all new to me. I will look up some CM facts and see if
more symptoms match hers. Also what is your experience in the extremely narrow spinal column causing
the dizziness and fatigue.  Stenosis in and around that spinal column too with Degenerative Disc Disease. That person is age 70.

CINE MRI is  a flow study in real time...not still pics like a reg MRI it moves to see how ur CSF is flowing to check for pulsating movement...they usually do this in 2 parts and include a BP clip to see if the flow pulsates with ur BP.

Hi Selma,

You are doing a great service here!  Thanks for taking time out of your holiday schedule to answer my post. It is so good to find your support!
Must admit I never heard of the condition Ehlers-Danios. Also have a brother with PD and scolisis. He is older and searches for help with his bent
body. Has a great attitude. So I am retired and finding more time to guide him too. Your members are very kind to reply too.

I never expected to deal with my children who seem so non-motivated at times. Maybe there is an explanation here that I have not investigated.

Well I am a guest for the holidays. Must go but not without thanking you for your help. May you have a blessed New Year!

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

It is so difficult to explain how one feels with all these unexplained issues and then we r sent to shrinks....I know, it was in our best interest as not many know about Chiari and how it affects us....we r described as lazy, inattentive, and many times it is all we can do is to get up and do little things....we do not sleep well and yes have anxiety, but it is not physiological it is more physical or neurological to be more on point....hearts palps with no heart issue, compression of the nerves in the spinal cord can cause so many issues and not many r considered stemming from one single source.....

Those of us with scoliosis no matter how mild can be the result of tethered cord or Ehlers-Danlos....

As for the spinal stinosis, this can also cause CSF flow restrictions and many symptoms and issues.

Degenerative disk disease is something we all have and not really a disease just the normal aging of the disks.....but in a narrow space this can add to pressure on the nerves and cause some of the sx u mentioned.

Both should have a CINE flow MRI study done to see if this is causing an issue and if it can be treated.

So sorry to hear your daughter is dealing with all of this.  I guess the best suggestion would be is to get her in to see a Chairi specialist or start with a NL and get a Flow MRI done to see if there is a blockage.  If she is dealing with dizziness, head fog, pressure headaches, vertigo, are some of the syptoms I was dealing with before getting dx'd.  I know we all have to go through a process in order to get these test done, so you might want to try your PC first.  I know mine ordered mine for me which saved a lot of time.  Wishing you and your daughter the best.
Linda :)
