Why does the back of my head feel so itchy all the time?

So I had my first decompression surgery back in 2014 and you never had a problem with the back of my head being itchy or anything and the last few months it started getting extremely itchy just really annoying feeling. But I can try all I want you to scratch it but it's like it never relieves it it feels like I don't even touch where it is being itchy at. Does anyone else have anything like this? What might it be? And the only place where it's literally scratchy and itchy at is the back of my skull where I had my decompression at.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

I had this issue but it was while my incision was healing post op.....and I know it was due to the skin drying and pulling on the incision due to washing my hair....I was told to use a baby shampoo and not to wash it too fequently to help prevent the pulling as it could open the incision...BUT since it is a few years since your surgery I am not sure what is going on.....

I noticed you do have other related condtions, and it may be due to one of those that you have this unscratchable itch.

I will say my scar/incision site does bother me from time to time...but not like you described.

Yeah it really seems like my head is just becoming even more sensitive to everything. I know I had the surgery a few years ago and I figured yeah it would be normal after the surgery but with that many years have passed and then now it just acting the way it has been it just gets really annoying and frustrating. Can't wear my hair up if I wear my hair down I can't put it behind my ears it honestly to me it feels like I can't do anything with my hair but leave it straight down. And then with the back of my head itch in the way it does it drives me nuts so scratchy and itchy just in the area where I had my surgery at. It's not red or inflamed back there which is a good thing I'm just kind of wondering do you think it could possibly be my body trying to reject that mesh they put in? I don't know I'm just so many what-ifs.
That is a possibility.....many have found out post op that they also have a related condition EDS which can cause our bodies to reject foreign material/matter......so it is totally possible. Did you have EDS ruled out?
