No specialist in my state

I was diagnosed with Chiari Type I and am having a huge amount of symptoms. They include dizziness, muscle weakness, extreme fatigue, memory problems, syncope, tingling and numbness in my legs and arms, and severe headaches. Oh, I have the syrinx, too.

My main issue is that we don't have a specialist in my state (KY) that has a history of dealing with any of this or doing the surgery. I have Medicaid and it is not accepted out of state so traveling is a bit of a problem.

Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Another member mentioned it is possible to request emergency access to medicare so u can get the care u need b4 u r of the age to fit criteria for medicare...go to medicaid and medicare and ask how u can get the help u need when the specialists r out of state.

Always appeal ins decisions to get the best possible care.Scroll to the bottom of this page for a list of Drs that may be close to u so u may research them and so u can offer some names to medicaid/care for review.

Hello, I was not aware of any specialist in my area, however I was dx by a brain surgeon so if you have one that knows a bit about chairi look it to seeing him or her.
