Good morning. I just came from Milwaukee after seeing Dr. Heffez. I agree, he is wonderful, and very informative. He does not push surgery. He shows you on your MRI's what the problem is and he takes the time to make sure your comfortable with what he is telling you.
You can even bring a tape recorder with you if you have problems remembering what he said. This is OK with him. I will say that if a CINE MRI (CSF flow study) is what you desire, he doesn't do these. At least this is what he told me at my appointment. My Chiari is complicated, because I'm also diagnosed with basilar migraine and this has a lot of the same symptoms. So, we don't know how symptomatic my chiari is.
I'm so thankful for Dr. Heffez. I would be suffering with these dangerous basilar migraines if he wasn't paying attention. My local neuro diagnosed me in Jan. 09 with a migraine varient, but I was never informed of this, suffering since...
Good Luck
penny I am sooooo glad u had a good appt. And he is able to help u! That's great news!!!!! And I agree with what she said! He knows his stuff! Deff have ur questions written down just so u can remember what u wanted to ask. I no that sounds stupid but sometimes u get so much info and it helps to remember what ur concerns or qs were!

I just saw him this afternoon. He was wonderful. I absolutely loved him. He took lots of time talking to my DH and I and really examining me to see all of what I've been living with. He really explained what he was thinking and spent a lot of time looking at the MRI's with us. He even pointed things out that may be a source of problems later that has nothing to do with Chiari. He really understand Chiari and how it effects those that have it. We learned a lot while meeting with him. Very thorough, very confident (not cocky about being "the specialist"), very conforting and reassuring. His office does a wonderful job scheduling your appointment to be a efficient as possible.
PS. If money is an issue and you need a place to stay while in Milwaukee, check out Kathy's House.
Good Luck
