nose problems...just curious

Hey all :)

A few months ago I got diagnosed with massive turbinate hypertophy -- the ridges in my nasal passages are extremely enlargened and therefor I have trouble with my sinuses (they are narrowed and blocked) and increased pain, pressure in head and eyes, tingling in my face and ear/jaw pain. Sound familiar? It seems that some of my chiari symptoms were overlapping with this other issue I am having. Just curious if anyone else has problems with nose, sinuses, etc. My dad had this problem and had surgery twice, so I'm sure i get it from him...he also had some severe head/neck trouble that maybe there is a correlation? So anyway, MUCH of my pain and pressure is gone, but I still sometimes get headaches so bad that I can't function. Just a different kind. At least I don't have the blocked CSF going against me now!

I just passed my 4 month anniversary post-decompression. Feeling mostly good, except for this stuff. Still get sharp pains in the back of my head near incision where the patch must be. Some symptoms are creeping back on me -- memory loss, dropping things, tingly fingers, dizziness. Hopefully this is normal up and down of healing.

Think about y'all all the time! Hope you are well (as well as can be expected) and you are always in my prayers! Stay strong.

Rosemarie

p.s. also just curious -- how many of you were tested for ALL diseases related to chiari when you saw a specialist (autoimmune stuff) ?? I saw a NS, so I'm just wondering about what I missed by not seeing a chiari specialist.

Hi! I am having the exact same problems as you. Last week, the dr. told me my nasal valve collapsed on one side of my nose and I have enlarged tubinates; he recommended surgery to me because he said it will help my breathing and sinus problems. I am not sure if it's at all related to CM, but I have had allergies for most of my life so I figured it was because of that. It is causing me a lot of problems with sleeping. So, it is hard to say b/c I think it's a pretty common problem. Good luck : )

I'm having a hard time getting a doctor to test me for those things, just to be certain. I'm going to just schedule a physical and beg her again in person because I want to be sure. Thanks a lot! I just thought it was crazy that I got rid of one type of headache and this other one was revealed! When I had them both at the same time it was unbearable. Just wondering if anyone else discovered a similar problem.

I did actually pass out yesterday morning from dehydration because I have a pretty bad stomach virus. My husband panicked because I'd been having horrible headaches -- he was sure it was related to my chiari. It turns out we are just more sensitive to neuro changes like vaso-vagal and being sick, having a head cold. That's what my doc said, after she finally validated me by talking to me about my surgery.

I appreciate the response. I really wish I had seen a specialist to have all the other testing done. I guess I didn't think about it then...we will see! Good to hear from you :)

HI Rosemarie.....
I do not have the same problem u r having with ur nose,,. but deff sinus issues and I know it is chiari related.....

AS for what tests were done by a chiari specialist...I was tested for tethered cord, Ehlers-Danlos.....had a ECHO cardiograhm(sP)......I was checked for DDD, Stinosis, syringomyelia.....looked at for lupus, lymes, MS....Hashimoto's thyroiditis .....TMJD......many of the tests were suggested and I did have them at "home" instead of waiting to have them all when I went to see the dr.....

I think u r doing great...keeping in mind u r 4 months post op and back to work!!...I am just about at my 1 yr Annv and still not even considering work...or driving.....

Just be careful to rest when u need it.....
