vision post-op

I have worn glasses for distance for 20+ years, and now that I have had surgery, my distance vision hasn't changed, but my vision close-up is horrific. Did anyone else experience this? My NS said it's probably due to the amount of CSF lost during surgery and that it will probably stablize when my CSF stablizes. Has anyone else had this happen?

Pretty much the same drill...couldn't find much wrong except that my eyes jerk when following his finger and that I can't look off to my left w/o my eyes jumping back. His theory is that my vision issues are due to cranial nerve damage that affects the muscles around the eyes and possibly some damage done to the occipital lobe of my brain from Chiari. But who knows???

Basically, my eye itself is healthy though and the optic nerve looked good..

PLLAAHHTTT :P

I did have an issues with one eye (my left) that looked weird my neurologist found it and said my pressure must be changing i said why is that he said your eye is not dialating right- but he couldnt figure out why being now i have a shunt... (oh and yes i have been decompressed,)

--Anywho-- oh darn i forgot where i was going crud- well if i remember i will be back hahaha

I will def. have my hubby keep track of my pupils so that we can bring that up at the follow-up visit.  I also read today that one of my meds' side effects is blurry vision, so maybe that could be it (it's a transdermal patch for nausea) and will resolve when I stop taking it. Carolyn, I'm so sorry you can't see your little ones' face close up :( If I remember correctly, you had posted earlier about seeing an opthalmologist....how did that go?

I do have issues with seeing things close to me as well. I also have had glasses for at least 20 years for nearsightedness. It's funny because now I find I am reading everything far away to be able to see it rather than close which is what I used to do.

My problem is that my vision will instantly split and I will see two of everything making it impossible to read. Then my eyes start jumping all over the place b/c they don't know where to focus. For me, I think it is more of a muscular issue...the muscles that control my eyes are not strong enough to keep focus on objects that are near. When I try I can actually feel the burning pain and my eyes will keep splitting off. It's kind of sad b/c I can't even look closely at my children's faces anymore.

I am five weeks post op and my vision is also blurry. I can see if I really really concentrate, but then I notice that I get a headache from doing that too often.
The other thing that I have noticed is that, say I am on my phone texting on a smaller screen, and then maybe look up at the tv, it takes some time for my eyes to adjust.
I did have to go have my pressure lowered with a lumbar puncture. My vision was terrible that night. The triage nurse thought I was on something because she said my eyes looked weird. My NS agreed. He turned the lights off and shined the light in them. They would not dilate at all. So he took some csf fluid out and brought my pressure down....my eyes were fine then. He told the hubby to continue checking my dilation of my eyes. The pressure is on the optic nerves, hence the vision problems.
Hope this helps.

I have a trouble concentrating close up, everything goes blurry and I have to blick a lot ot get it to focus.  I had lasik a few years ago and my left eye is getting bad again.  I have a Pineal Cysts which can cuase vision problems, so with the Chiari who know's what's going on.

I am a bit concerned with my vision, I am 28.

Hi...I never had prescription glasses, but started to have blurry vision which I was told was Age...lol...

I had surgery too and my vision issues r still with me too.

My eye dr told me to get magnification glasses to help with reading, but I need them to see what is on the dinner plate with more clarity... but no rx glasses were needed????

I am confused by the vision issues too...and I never heard the CSF explanation b4 either.

I am over 1 yr post op...guess it depends on the individual as well on this issue.
