plane/ whoshing liquid sound in my head

Hi  everyone ! Happy Saturday. I have been dealing with this new thing for quite some time, and I thonl the only ones that wont think that I am crazy for explaining it would be everyone here. So here it goes. I have had this low, but loud plane taking off, whoshing liquidy sound in mmy head for like 2 weeks nonstop. It is driving me crazy. At first I thought it was a train, because I live be a train track, but that would have to be one REALLY LOOOOONG train. LOL. It hasnt stopped, and it has gotten louder, and on top off that I can hear my heart beating inside. Does that even make sense? See, what I mean anyone else would  think I needed to be in a looney bin, hearing noisies in my head, and then when you add the HA with it, it sounds even worse and makes the HA worse too. I have no idea if this is something some of you have dealt with, but if you have, please respond. Thanks all :)

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Have you had a brain or cervical spine MRI? Do you have a Chiari DX?

If not, you may want to rule it out.....do you get headaches?

I get the airplane sound myself, its stronger with ear plugs but i can kind of feel it in my ears and head aswell like it pulsing in and out, it like your on the edge of hearing a plane approach and wait for it to fly over but it never does, i prefer it to the sound like distant faint drill thudding (Those giant drills you see used on roads in movies) and not as bad as hearing my own heart bit but i can't stand it, I have trouble sleeping as it is, but this has made it worse.  I don't know if its related but I tend to get way too hot as well, even in winter. The heating on is unbearable for me, even on low!. My bedroom radiator is constantly off, I don't wear pj's to bed, I have a down feather quilt as they are meant to be cooler then that horrible synthetic stuff that looks like have cotton wool, and its the thinest/lowest tog. I have my window open yet still feel burning hot in bed, even when its mins degrees. Lately my face has been really burningly hot and red across the cheek bones and even if i stand outside the air feels cool everywhere except by burning face, it feels warm against it and wont cool it!. When I over heat I can feel it inside and out. Others can feel the heat coming from me and are amazed by it. My late mother would over heat but she couldn't feel it, only others could feel it coming off her and my dad is the same. And no matter how hot I get most of me can't seem to sweat, especially my face. only my chest, back, armpits and palms sweat, so I can't cool down naturally from sweating. Ever since the weird plane noises started the over heating has gotten worse!. According to tests its not diabetes or thyroid. Its not anxiety because even when i'm super calm it happens. I have insomnia, my sleep is extremely broken when I do finally fall asleep and on the rare occasions i get plenty of sleep I don't even feel like i've slept, i'm constantly tired and drained. I've tried sleep hygiene but its no use and i'be dramatically cut down on sugar as high sugar diets can cause the over heating, but its made no difference!, in the last 3 nights i've had about 7 hours sleep when it should have been 24 ( 3 x 8) thats not even a full nights sleep!, i'm unbearably tired way too early for bed, which isn't easy at work! and by the time its a reasonable time to go to bed i'm 'over tired'. Am I alone in these feelings?. What could it be, I'm only 29 in April!

sorry for double post but I did post a comment instead of reply and wanted to make sure you got the info if you needed it - here it is again:

ont know if you are still having this problem but here it goes.  I have ms and was seeing my neuro who also treats me for headaches. I gather my nerve and said that I had a new type of headache happening and would he believe I could hear a washing machine sloshing and pushing in my head. He looked at  me and said he was glad I said something and that it was called pseudotumor cerebri - http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pseudotumor-cerebri/basics/definition/con-20028792  which is basically an over pressure of the spinal fluid in your head and behind your eyes.

He then proceeded to do a spinal and my pressure there was through the roof. He drained the excess and prescribed diamox sequels as a means of controlling it - I had no side effects from medication and sounds disappeared and pain seemed to dissipate some..

Since that day I have flareups of it occasionally but I am not a fan of spinals and never got it drained again and the dr said I would have  to take the meds the rest of my life.

It is a painful and odd condition - but I really  do think you should consult a neuro and don't be afraid of what they are going to think about you - this could potentially do a lot of nasty stuff to your brain so get it checked!

Thank God I am not alone with my constant intermittent Airplane travel cabin sound.  I came back from a long haul flight two months ago and it is like my head recorded the sound ????

what you are describing sounds like something called a bruit.  There are many sites where you can find more information.. I am familiar with the term because my daughter suffered from arterial rupture in her brain (caused by something called avm or arteriovenous malformation).  You don't necessarily have the condition my daughter does, but the symptoms you describe resemble the symptoms of a bruit.  It is usually caused when blood flow is restricted in the arteries .

I have the same problem and have had it for almost 6 years now. Recently I went to see a naprapath and she has helped me some. The issue sems to be what they call tension tinutus and it comes in different sounds for different people. My sounds like an airplane circling in the back of my head. Lately I've been doing some exercises to release the tension. You should go and see a tinutus specialised naprapath.

There is help to get!

/Charlie

Sorry for my bad english.....

Hey, I got it!!!

CIA....CHIARI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT :-)

you know, we could get in trouble with the FAA or whatever the aviation gurus are if they think we are picking up on their frequencies...even Area 51 could bring us in for questioning lol...sorry,  watching Jeff Dunham isn't helping me be serious at alllllll....but the pain from laughing is worth it...

I am so glad that this is making sense to all of you. I really thought I may be going crazy. Someone referenced a 747... YES !!! EXACTLY !!! It just never flippin' goes away...NEVER !!! I had to go to my godchild's bday party today, and I thought I was going to go nuts...30kids, somewhere around 20 adults, and these planes in my head...oh, how my head hurts now, the constant noises are worse now, and I have a major HA !!! GRRRRRRRR!!! Sorry, guess I am just really frustrated now. I mean I gues I should have expected to be a hard day, but now my shoulders are on fire, I drove for two hours so everything hurts, and my eyes are all ...which way do we go george ...which way do we go? I know, I am rambling now, but gosh, I am just sooooo sick of all of it, I just need a small break, jsut a small non sympton cycle...please...please...please. Anyhow....Hope you are all well, well, other than our airports :)

I don't even know what to say except my jaw dropped when I read this.  Not so much the whooshing sound, cuz I think that's pretty typical for "us".  But the plane taking off thing.  I hear it all the time, as if I'm at an airport constantly.

Wow....just wow.

It's such a groovy thing to know we're all able to tune in to the same frequencies, now all I ask is if someone figures out how to find the mute button, please be nice & share...or else lol...jk.  I know this is serious stuff, but if I don't try & keep my (often warped) sense of humor, I will never make it.  I lose things all day every day, often from one room to then next, luckily, my sense.of humor doesn't seem to wander very far from home... I need to figure out how to put a gps on everything I guess :-)

Hello doll,

I have the same problems myself. I notice it especially when I have ear plugs in.. I have always been able to hear my heart beat from the inside.. so weird! It feels like there is a lot of pressure behind my left ear and that's definitely new for me. The sound reminds me of water wooshing onto the shore.. it gets so loud at times that it keeps me awake. After surgery I have been snoring REALLY loudly too and waking up gasping for breath. It scares me so much! I brought it up to the ER while I was in Seattle, no one seemed too concerned.

I also have horrible pressure the the left of my incison.. it feels like its gonna explode at times. I am also having HA's at the front of my head.. this is DEFINITELY new to me. Anyways.. thanks for sharing, I don't feel like I'm going crazy now :)

Lol @ Shell.. I loved E.T. good movie :)

Ciao darling,
Krystal

I have that wooshing sound and it drives me insane. My husband mumbles and for awhile I thought that it was just hard to hear him because he wouldn't speak up. Then, I realized that it wasn't the normal not being able to hear him stuff, it was because of the big 747 going through my head.

I have had balance problems for the longest, my mom always said that I was the clumsiest child and that walls needed to watch out for me, and that the ground is my worst enemy. My eyes always jump, twitch, and seem like they have a glare over them....and sometimes they just water perfuosly.
My ears do feel all stopped up and like they are pressurized at times, and it will reduce my hearing greatly and is always accompanied by the whooshing and stuff. It does drive you crazy. i still hear it when I go to sleep even, and that is just proposterous!!! I mean really, I cant even sleep because of the stupid ringing and whooshing plane and when I do sort of sleep, it is still there.
For the record Sheltn, it was WNOE today, LOL!! I have never even heard of tinnitus. I will have to go look that up. Mine was 7-8 mm when they first found the Chiari, My last Mri shows a 1.2 cm or 12 mm, that was a year ago. I dont know but I have always had ringing in the ears, but this new sound is just driving me nuts ! Hope you all have a good evening :) Glad to know that others are experiencing the craziness too. I also thought so many things were "normal" yet weird, and the CHiari makes so much sense now, for my whole life I dealt with weird things, I just didnt know they were weird.

I hear your buzzing all the way here in MI....LOL... I have the same thing.  Only in my left ear and I didn't have this until after surgery.  I have been told it's tinnistis.  Look this up and as your Dr.  it does drive you crazy doesn't it?  No one knows until they have to deal with this.  My sisiter has had tinnistis for yrs and I never understood what she mean't.  I sure do now.  At least you can relate yours to music.  Have a good evening

I have always had the annoying loud whooshing/ heart beat in my ears, along with the constant buzz or ring. Actually that was one of my first noticeable symptoms as a child. My ENT told me for years it was otosclerosis, which I do have and meneires. Then I was diagnosed with Chiari and now it makes perfect sense. I know its annoying and beyond miserable. It's worse when accompanied with the fullness and pressure in my ears too. When my ENT sent me for an MRI, to see about my ears, that's when the Chiari was found, and an 8 mm herniation. Do you also have balance issues, or eye problems?

Sorry for the owies but glad they were laugh related, the pain is justified when we need a giggle :-)

As far as asking my pcp, I've taught that group more than they learned in med school, so unfortunately, they've  been a whole lotta no help in much more than getting my referral, & have said they know nothing more to do other than wait for my appointment... I think it b should be mandatory for continued studying & education in all fields because new treatments & conditions are discovered everyday & what good does it do when nobody knows about it?

So was it WNOL today lol?  I lived down on the Gulf Coast for 18 yrs....miss it ALOT :-(

Agreed, re your mandatory continued education comment. Doctor appointments are so frustrating!

Hahahaha ....LOL ! Sheltn, I really needed that painful laugh today. I have been filling all of these easter Bow and dress orders and my head is pounding. I know what you mean about the different frequenies, it's like...okay, Good morning New Orleans, what station will we be on today...lol. I also live by an airport and a hospital and a RR crossing. So, I know what you mean by the orchestra as well as NEEDING a mute button. I sure hope it isnt considered hearing voices, though we are deemed "crazy" due to all the weird unusual symptoms. Have you ever asked your DR about it? I wonder as well if it has somehting to do with the CSF not flowing like it is supposed to. I already know that it is more obstructed than it was two years ago, and it has been a year since my last MRI.

Oh yea, I live less than 500 ft from a RR crossing & there r several adnan airports & a local hospital who has helicopters in & out all the time, so all those sounds just blend right in & make an orchestra  for my private enjoyment....extremely annoying when trying to go to sleep at night...wish we had a mute button option sometimes :-/

I also hear weird sounds from ringing, different pitches/frequencies changing, my heart beat, & popping/clicking when I swallow, I often wonder if it could be csf leak related because I have fluid behind my eardrums more often than not. So unless we are receiving radio frequencies from alien planets or space ships, I dont think these occurrences would count as hearing voices even though we're liked at like we're from another planet when we try to explain our experiences...maybe we b should start a new Planet Chairi site lol....it would be great if there could be some way of creating simulators with some of our symptoms so others could understand just a sample of what we deal with on an everyday basis.

Maybe the radio frequencies are trying to tell us something lol...ET is trying to contact us....jk :-D

Thats a good way to put it Selma. All I know is it is driving me crazy, it started as a regular ringing in the ears, and then turned into this. It almost at times sounds like my head is filled with water and its just sloshing around up there. Almost like the sound you get when you take a half ebpty gallon of water and move it from side to side. Then I have the annoyind ongoing train/plane sound. I like the way you put it for me ot explain to a dr though, maybe it wont get that weird look. Thanks so much.
