GI issues?

Has anyone else had GI issues as a symptom of your chiari malformation? Always being nauseous, bad acid reflux, ect.? I have for three years now, and my surgeon thinks decompression surgery Friday will solve these problems but just curious as do if anyone else has had these GI/stomach problems too.

I too have GI issues, Nausia, and acid reflux. However  I also have Crohn's. So I don't know which came first, the chicken or the egg! Lol.

Hi. I am ready through the newer posts and was drawn to your question about nausea and GI issues. Nausea and vomiting were my most concerning symptoms before I had my surgery. I used to have no warning when the vomiting would come and more than a few times experienced it while I was driving and could not pull over. Needless to say, I have had to have my car professionally cleaned both times. I really hope you are having a better time than I was. I say "was" because I have had significant drop in these symptoms. However, I carry an extra hand towel in my car. I hope you can find some relief. One thing I have found helpful is having ginger chews on hand in my purse.

Yes, many of us do have GI issues along with Chiari...IBS, reflux etc...we are all different...

I also have EDS and tend to over produce histamines which causes PND and that leads to reflux....it can be a vicious cycle ....

No surgery did not get rid of my reflux or IBS....I still have them....I would say they are better then they were, but  I have times that can be pretty bad tho too..

I also have Hashimoto's,and tethered cord which can add to bowel and bladder issues (IBS) , EDS and a few other issues/conditions.....

I would suggest you modify your diet and lifestyle as anyone with reflux and take meds for it....untreated reflux can lead to other health issues including wearing off the enamel from your teeth....

See a GI Dr and get under his/her care ..this should help with this ...surgery is not a cure all....it is meant to help restore CSF flow
