hey, my ent said the reason for this could be the nerves that criss-cross back there in the neck occipital area??? so... maybe that's why it increasess after surgery?? and the fact that the fluid flow can cause this is just a given for me, i dont need a dr to confirm it...its just one of those things they havent looked into or proven yet...ah the joy of science.. i havnt had the surgery yet but... i have this happen a lot and it increases big time when i get my blood pumping..difinately chiari related..if they cant fit it into the "proven box" they wont say its from chiari...but i know my body and i trust my instincts...alll my ent visits were negative for anything else
hey there, i have the same problem...please let me know what they say...i mean, it only makes sense
It is very frusterating isnt it. Its all related somehow, we chiarians know this. Wish drs were as smart as us,lol. Maybe if they had it, they would understand us.
I saw my Neurologist yesterday and mentioned the ringing on my ears.. of course she thinks it's prob a side affect from the Zofran that I'm on. I haven't seen her since January (before they found the chairi, I was just seeing her for migraines) and she said oh your chairi is so mild.. it's 5 mm. which i know isn't major but for crying out loud, don't tell me that the symptoms i have are not from chairi. Sorry, i'll get off my soap box now. I hope your ears get better and you can get some answers!!!! I certainly can relate to your frustration!
hey there, my ns told me today that the ringing and pressure sound in my ears is not related to chiari. and thats an issue for a ENT. ugh
ringing again? Oh yeah, it has to stop ringing before you can say again doesn't it?
Sorry, I have to joke about this one or it will literally drive me batty! I've had some ringing since I was young. But the ringing post-op is worse, much worse. Doc said that the damage was most likely done by the amount of compression. He also said it's possible that it could heal given time or not. PCP wanted to give meds for tinitus (sp?) but they didn't work for me.
So I practice 'tune it out' three times a day or more as needed. :-)
It is interesting that you say noise tunes it out. For me I tend to tune out treble and increase bass in order to not drive myself nuts. Even music that I like or TV shows with too much tinny noise will give me fits.
I'm afraid all I can give you is insight into how I"ve learned to deal with it. Docs, Meds, etc have done nothing for the problem at all in my case.

Hi...this is not uncommon, and we do have many threads on this topic- here is a link so u can look at them....
http://www.medhelp.org/forums/search/257?query=ringing+in+the+ears
Many times it can b the result of meds for pain that can add to this problem...so do look at the side effect of the meds u r taking. That in addition to having chiari it is something we do have to contend with.
Just be sure to mention u have it.....it can be CSF pressure....but what it is will be for the Dr to help find out....
Keep us posted on what u find out
