22month old drools excessively

22 month old drools excessivly, is nonverbal but does babble to himself when alone, has trouble following simple requests, feeds himself but food runs out of mouth, social behavior is lacking does not engage in cooperative play but does parrell play. Has no behavior problems is very compliant, does not get angry nor does not show fustration. Is this normal, I am very concerned.

Keep in mind the "average" can vary greatly between each child.  But the combination of not beeing able to keep food in his mouth along with no speech suggest there could be an issue that needs looked at more closely...

No, this does not sound normal at all.  Average vocab at this age is 20 words and they are starting to put two-word phrases together.  Also, food should not be running out of his mouth, it seems like he hasn't developed the muscle tone in his mouth.  I would definately set up an appt with his doctor.  And if you're that concerned and doc says he's fine ask for a referal to a speech therapists, or a child behaviorist.

One possibility - developmental apraxia of speech - I might suggest you google this phrase and see if the information remind you of your child.  If so, I urge you to seek help immediately - start with your family doctor or pediatrician.  This disorder has an excellent prognosis but early intervention/treatment/speech therapy is critical for children (and 22 months is not too young).  I wish you the best ...
