3yr old reading? But delay in speech?

My daughter will be 3 next month and she can read (Not a book) but words that she sees, even ones she have never seen before. But she has speech delays, she is not giving 3-4 workd sentences yet. SHe has a very large vocabulary, but not carry out complete sentences. What is this called is they excell in early reading, but slower on speech?

go to www.hyperlexia.org to learn more about the characteristics of hyperlexia.  You should talk to your pediatrician and obtain referrals for specialist to evaluate you dtr. i.e. psychology and speech/language pathology.  You can also contact your local public school district and request and evaluation, if she qualifes she will recieve services i.e. speech/language services, special needs preschool free of charge to you.  Best wishes...

It sounds as if your dtr. may be hyperlexic.  Do a google search of hyperlexia to learn more.  Has she been evaluated by by a speech/language pathologist? You are correct that it is typical for 3 year olds to be putting 3 word phrases i.e. "I want up".  Is she combining words at all?  How is her development in general, particularly her social development?  How does she interact with you and her father, siblings, relatives, caregivers?  Does she respond to her name being called?  How is her eye contact?  Does she have any unusual behaviors i.e. lining up toys, fascination with specfic types of objects?  Does she have tantrums that are very long in duration?
