7 year old still experiencing tantrums

R09
My 7 year old boy was diagnosed with ADHD about 2 months ago and was prescribed Focalin XR 15mg.  Our physician said that this medication could make him a little more sensitive and emotional.  He was already very sensitive, but it seems that he is diffinitely more sensitive and emotional.  He is set off by the smallest things, if he has to stop playing and do homework he cries, if he has to stop do an activity to go take a bath he cries, if we are on a playdate and we have to leave he cries.  Almost anything sets him off.  Granted he has always been a child who threw an occasional tantrum but he seemed to out grow them.  But lately it feels like he has taken 3 steps back.  Do you believe it could be a side effect with the medicine and we will need to learn how to deal with it or could there be co-morbid issues like depression or anxiety (he really is a child that seems very happy, until he needs to stop something he enjoys)?

We need your help with this.

All I know is that any transition is made easier by forewarnings--- "We're leaving in 5 minutes" really works- also since the dr said to expect it- I would say it surely could be the medicine....
I was a single mom and well, it's embarrassing but his dad left us because he found a girl cuter and sweeter :-/- anyhow- my little one- age 4- even now at age 16 prefers to hear of changes well in advance-

example: if I were to know a week ahead of time that I had a teacher's meeting and he would go home with a friend of ours after school (instead of home with me, as usual) I would tell him as early as possible- even a week early- so he could get used to the idea. He wasn't a problem child if I failed to tell him early but would just say things like - "I wish I would have known" or  "Oh you didn't tell me"
