9 year old says he's scared of his imagination

My son has loved scary movies for a few years now, just lately though we watched a zombie movie and for a week now he's scared of practically everything. He won't go into another room alone, he'll follow me around so he's not left by himself, or he'll cover himself with a blanket to feel safe. When we are in my bedroom playing games he has to turn on the light and shut the door to feel safe. He's asked me to get a therapist for him, I'm thinking that's a good idea at this point. He's a very sensitive kid, always has been. He and his brother went through a tough time about a month ago. Their dad almost died after being sent to the hospital with a few infections his kidney's shut down and he was having breathing issues. Well, he made it through, but is still currently in the hospital and has been since a couple days after Thanksgiving. I'm sure that's still weighing on him as well. He was talking to his guidance counselor at school, but of course he just finished winter break and wasn't able to talk to them the whole time.

My question is, should I get a therapist or other professional and how would I go about finding a good one?

a typical response would be to send him to a psychiatrist, and that certainly is an option. however, your sons case sounds extreme enough to warrant a trip to a hypnotist in addition to more traditional treatment. a number of things could be happening to your child, and a second opinion is certainly warranted.

make sure to get a report from the hypnotist to give to a counselor or psychiatrist.

I dont like those zombie movies or the dracula ones many children of varying ages are scared by them, I wish parents would not show them to their children and if they want to watch let them do it when children are in bed .

Yes, and ask the guidance counselor at school.  Don't let your son live with paralyzing fear.

No more zombie movies, replace them with hilarious and silly comedies.  For like a year.

Poor kid.  He's internalizing so much stress, he should not be adding fearful images to it.  As one boy said, "I know ghosts are real, but I'm still scared of them."  Give him something else to remember and laugh at.
