Adolescent friendships
Is it normal for my 12 year old son to prefer females as friends? He has male friends, but usually hangs out with females. He seems well adjusted and happy. He has a girl that he considers a girlfriend. Is everything ok?
It's a sign of a mature and well-adjusted boy who can have a friendship with someone of the opposite sex. A lot of grown men are so disconnected from women that they can't "just be friends" with them and end up viewing them as sex objects. Your son is just fine - he will make someone a great husband one day :)
As long as he has nice, caring relationships with nice friends, I think he's fine.
Some guys are more into "relationships" and talking, and some guys are more into hiking and pick up basketball - it's all good if they have caring relationships with other nice kids.

Sounds great to me. I had a lot of close male friends in high school. In fact, my very best friend was a male. No problems on either end.
