Dislexic or disinterested?

Hi, I'm new to the board and found it in search of a possible answer regarding my 6 year old son.
He was in a preschool and kindergarten, he wears glasses for seeing things up close (reading, computer, etc.). Lately, he's been getting a lot of letters and numbers backward when writing and not wanting to read. I thought dislexia was more of "random" letters or numbers being backwards. He can write half a sentance backwards (letters facing the wrong direction as well as starting on the right writing to the left). I didn't know if I should be concerned about this or just work with him some more. Then as far as reading goes, he is contstantly saying that he's not in the mood, or he doesn't want to, sometimes he says he can't read it. I try to get him to read slowly, just working out the letters.
Thank you so much for your help!

If all you were seeing is occasional reversals of letters, there would be nothing to worry about. However, the extent of the behavior and the attitude toward reading indicate a strong possibility of learning disability (dyslexia is somewhat of an umbrella term which refers to a number of language based learning disabilities). Your son should be tested (his public school can arrange this) for learning disability. It's important to figure this out before he gets any older.

If you are concerned, I would have him evaluated to find out for sure.  My son is 10 now but never liked to read until we got these captain underpants books by dave pilky.  far from a classic but it got him interested and now he reads fantastic.  your son might be a little young but you could read them together (as i did).  he will love them! (you may not but they are harmless!)

good luck
