Does my son have aspergers or other related disorder

My son is seven and a half years old. He shows good grades and skills in school. However, sometimes his teacher notices that if he is so focussed on a task it is hard for him to move in a different direction. He also becomes stubborn and would not understand and relate what is asked of him. Once in hall he put hands on ears because it was a very loud noise. Sometimes at home he runs fast and makes excitement  expressions on face. He is loving, gets very good grades, above average but is sometimes shy to reach out to kids.He is the only child we have. Do you think he may have aspergers or autism? When I called his paedatrician, he said that he looks fine . If the teacher says that he does not mix with kids at class then he would recommen d a psychologist. The teacher says he has a best friend and does talk to kids and is happy in class.

No, this description does not invite concern about Asperger's Disorder. Many young children do not like loud noises, so even that is not necessarily a sign of a problem. You could arrange an evaluation by a Pediatric Occupational Therapist for the purpose of determinigif he has any Sensory Integration difficulty, but even this does not sound compelling.

You might proceed with having him evaluated by a pediatric mental health clinician and see what the results indicate. There does not seem to have been sufficient reason to warrant a consideration of Asperger's Disorder. An evaluation would yield the data to make a more definitve diagnosis.

Thank you for your response Doctor. The reason for our concern is that in his previous grade his teacher only handed out a writeup on Aspergers saying that she did not mean that he has this but the fact that he is not very friendly and is exceptionally talented in math and spelling/ reading but not so good in problem solving/analytical skill made her think that way. We were shocked. Now in next grade this teacher said that once he got restless over an issue to an extent that he cried for an hour and would not understand at all. I am really very much worried.
