hi- another tip --- if this sorness has just started it could be because of a tiny tear or scrath at anus, from a previous hard stool.  try some hemmoroid cream, let you daughter apply on a tissue with lots on it, if she doesn't want to use applicator. this should help numb area a bit. to allow for a BM.  Also get her to do lots of walking to encouage BM so it doesn't become compacted.  Don't hesitate to take her to doctors for enema if it does as it will only cause her more distress.  Again, for future, she must drink enough water.  I have found my daughter becomming constipated since school year started as she isn't drinking enough throughout the day. good luck.

My daughter went through this when she was 3.  My doctor told me too use 1-2 teaspoons of Mineral Oil, every day.  It is not a laxtive, but it softens the stool to make it easier to go. You put the mineral oil in juice, or water, in the morning, by evening she should have to go. You have to be careful with the mineral oil, she has to drink it all at once, she is breaths it into her lungs it could cause pnemonia. But we used it everyday for a year and we never had a problem.  Good luck.

several other natural things to try... tea with senna in it, green tea is good for that and when my daughter was little i would have to give her water with karo syrup in it to keep her from getting stopped up.  Does she eat a lot of cheese?  That can plug up the works.  Or she could allso try the yogurt Activia I think it tastes good and it is supposed to help with that if you eat one a day.  Does she get enough water?  getting enough fruit and fiber is allso important.

poor thing-
try miralax 1/2 tsp then try 1 tsp  or 2 tsp- figure out a good maintenance dose by monitoring it and do it every morning---- it is VERY gentle (it won't give her diarrhea)- mix it with orange drink -

faster acting would be magnesium citrate- maybe only 1/5 bottle to start- mixed with orange drink such as Tang or koolaide

natural remedy- prune juice :-)

Kids hate enemas and glycerin suppositories- I would try to shy away from these
