Medicine mixes

My 10 year old daughter is suffering from PTSD, the Psychiatrist that she is seeing has her on 4 different medicines. These medicines are Prozac 20mg, Kapvay .2mg, Risperdal .5mg, and Imipramine. My question is first is this safe to mix and second what side effects could this mixture cause?

Have you tried giving her fish oil? It is a natural antidepressant and research has shown that it can affect people greatly. I give it to my daughter who has autism and it has helped her a lot. I buy the liquid bottles of it and put it in her food. They also sell it in chewable pills. It's worth a try because you know there won't be any side effects, it's food. If she'll eat fish that is a good thing to incorporate into her diet. Let us know what you figure out!

I would think that if she did not have this problem before the meds, then logically the meds could be part of the problem.

I do believe that the meds you describe can have side effects ..they are very powerful if yo do some research into that on each drug you will see there is a lot of aggression involved I do think its also the mixture ..as you suspect ..Mabe another chat with the doctor is in order.

Thank you very much for your reply. The reason I was asking about the meds was because she has alot of irritability and agression I was just wondering if the mixture of these meds could cause this. Again thank you for your reply.

Wow never even occurred to me that a 10 year old could have "Post-traumatic stress disorder".  I feel for her.
Those medicines are essentially anti-anxiety meds with the exception of Kapvay.  And they are pretty powerful.  You really do need to know what/how they effect your child.  I doubt if any of us are qualified to discuss the mixture of these meds.  That is a job for your doctor or druggist.  When you got these meds the druggist should have had a nice long talk with you.  Well, so should have your doctor.
I would take the time to google all of these meds.  One site I do like is crazymeds.us.  It  will have all the meds except kapvay.  You can start with  risperdal found here - http://www.crazymeds.us/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Meds/Risperdal?from=Risperdal.Risperdal
Then find the others by going to the "list of medications by name" on the left of the page.
"Kapvay is the only drug which is approved by FDA for the treatment of ADHD in children of age 6-18 .This comes in a non stimulant extensive release tablet form and is always recommended by doctors for children.

Kapvay has some other off label uses as well like treating insomnia, in treatment of menopausal symptoms. Sometimes it is also used in treatment of conditions like psychiatric disorders like hyperarousal, sleeping disorder. It can also be used as a mild sedative."
I think that you are very wise in finding out the effects of these meds as they are quite a cocktail.   I would certainly stay in touch with your psyc and report anything that worries you.  Oh,  most of these require a tapering off of the med.  So don't just suddenly discontinue the use of the med.  Hope this helps!
