Need to get 3YO son to poo in toilet.

Hi, needing some ideas on how to get my son to do his poop in the toilet. I began potty training him about 8 weeks ago and he is doing wonderful with his wees but I cannot get him to do poo in the toilet. I go through it all every day explaining to him that his poos dont go in his pants they go in the toilet and if he does this he will get a reward. He sits and agrees with me and will reply with poos go in the toilet, but then that day he will go outside to play and do it in his underwear or when he has nap time. He has just gone three and I would still be happy to put a pull up or nappy on him before sleep time but he will take it off and then do poo. What gets me is that right after he has done poo he will run to me telling me he needs to do poo in the toilet, so hes getting that part right but I dont know how to explain to him he needs to do it in the toilet before he does it in his pants. When he does it I tell him he should have done it in the toilet sturnly and calmly take him to the toilet and sit him on the toilet and plop his poop and wipe his bottom, he is happy to do all this. I have even had him watch other members of the family use the toilet. Please Im so sick of cleaning underpants and stressing over him pooping his pants while we are out.  I need some fresh ideas on what I can do about this. Thanks.

I thought my oldest would never get it but he had a hard time stopping to go when he was playing, that is when I started getting him to sit on the potty about the time he would normally go and if he didnt go when he went back to playing about every 30 min I would ask do you have to potty or poop if he said no I would still take him every hour till he did and if I saw him straining I would pick him up and take him. I would reward him just for trying to sit and go. If he does do it in others care so what he is still 3 and I would tell them before you drop him off he still has accidents but they are limited if you take him every hour to the potty. Most people that heve kids will understand this. Just pack extra clothes

Thanks for answering I will try and put him on the toilet more often. I just brought him a little car and told him if he does his poo on the toilet he can have it. He was so excited about this car and still he pooped in his pants. So her didnt get to have it, maybe next time? Oh well your right he only has been training for eight weeks Im just worried he will do it when in others care. YUK! Very fustrating oh well. Thanks again for replying I have to be more patient and that Im not very good at.

You just started 8 wks ago it took my oldest son a year before he totally got it, he was 3 1/2, Have you tried sitting him on the toilet around the time he normally goes. Like let him sit awhile on the potty before nap, before going out to play, and right when he wakes and right when he comes in from playing, If you make a big issue it will only discourage him, just say remember we go in the potty like big boys, lets try next time to make it to the potty
