Should I be concerned for ADD

My 5 y/o daughter just started kindergarten last week. Like any other kid, sometimes I've had difficulty with her paying attention when I tell her things and getting her to do things in order, but I never thought anything about it. However, her teacher at school has told me that she is having a hard time getting her to pay attention in school and to do things according to the classroom order. Granted it's only been 5 days of school so far, but I am wondering if I should start being concerned about ADD? She is very smart and academically is well beyond kindergarten, but she was never in any type of school before now, as I stayed home with her. Is this just a normal thing for her to get used to having the discipline in the classroom after coming from a pretty lax home environment where she and I just went with the flow on a daily basis? What should be some signs that I look for that would be considered 'red flags'?

Thanks for any advice!

Thanks I will go there and read about other people's experiences and keep you posted. I called her pediatrician yesterday and she said that "Your daughter is very smart, give it some time, she has never been in school before" I believe also, she is a right brained thinker like my husband. They just 'do things differently' than left brained people. Thanks for the support!

So far this does seem to me to be kind of expected.  I would give it another week or two for your daughter and teacher to work this out.
I do find it interesting that the teacher would contact you so early.  Keep the communication open between the two of you.
I post a lot on the ADHD forum.  If things aren't getting better in about two weeks, please post over there so I know that I will see it.  There is a lot of things that I can suggest.  Its just a bit too early now.

Actually, the first "red flag" should be that the teacher contacted you.  What does he/she think?  And how long has your daughter's teacher been teaching? (experience is important and has more merit in "describing" classroom behaviour).  Have you discussed this with the principal?  There are others on this forum with more experience than I with ADD/ADHD; hopefully, one will comment on your posting soon.  All the best ....
