normal for 4 yr old boy

My son recently turned 4 and I noticed at daycare he plays only with the girls.  I talked to his teacher about this and they said he prefers playing with the girls but will play with the boys.  They said that the girls fight over who gets to play with him because he will pretend to be the prince when playing princess.  He loves to pretend play as we have encouraged that.  When @ home he plays super heroes trains etc.  He absolutely loves playing with his boy cousin the same age.  He says he plays with the girls because they t beautiful & the boys aren't as cool as his dad. Im worried that I'm missing something & note letting him be himself.  My mom says I'm ridiculous that I have a happy boy who's just being a kid and playing with the kids who give him attention. Has anyone else had a similar situation or any thoughts

It's normal, especially when you have a sister.  Not as certin about your family friend though.

I don't see a problem and the daycare teachers don;t seem to see one. My son was always comfortable playing with girls when he was young. He had three sisters and when they played house they made him be the father.

Hi, I'm going through the same thing with my 4yo son in Kindergarten. Previously he'd played with boys when we attended play groups, but since he started Kindergarten in February, he's mainly stuck with a group of girls. My thoughts have been he misses his 3yo sister and also that he's very articulate and sociable for a boy his age; at a time when his peers don't speak a lot and prefer to do their own, individual thing. I had a family friend suggest he's gay, and that was in January before he'd even started Kindergarten.
