Could he be considered a spirited child?
When such episodes occur either at home or in school he should be placed by himself for as long as it takes to calm down. It needn't be done in a punitive fashion, but rather is a supportive way that communicates how upsetting/disruptive it is to others to have all that noise around, and he can re-join others when he calm. This is aversion of time out that is mostly designed to help the child re-gaincomposure vs a punishment time out.
