Withdrawal from Adderol

My 7 year old nephew has been diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed Adderol.  His parents do not administer the medication properly.  The RX is BID, but they appear to administer it when they want to manage him.  He may have 1x day for a week and then go 3 days without, then 1 dose on 1 day and another 2 days off.  Very erratic.  I'm trying to find out what the ramifications of this type of treatment might be.  I would like to be able to offer them solid scientific evidence as to any possible dangers.

The issue is really one of using the medication in a manner that is most likely to provide the best benefit. Using stimulant medications, like Adderall, on a prn or inconsistent basis is not helpful. If execssive amounts of the medicine are not administered, there really is no danger, but he will not benefit from such irregular use of the prescription. And it certainly is not beneficial from a physical perspective, with his body unable to acclimate to a regular regimen. It would be better not to give the medication at all if his parents are not able to demonstrate more responsibility.
