It sounds like your son has a tic disorder. My daughter started with eye blinking when she was 4 and she ended up having Tourette's Syndrome. It is not the weird cussing disease you have heard of in the movies. In fact, coprolalia (cussing) happens to a very small percentage of kids with Tourette's. There is a spectrum of tic disorders. Chronic motor tic disorder is then there are moventment (like your son's that last for a year or more, but no vocal (sound) tics). Chronic vocal tic disoder is when the sounds last for a year without the motor tics. And, finally, a Tourette's diagnosis requires that the child has had both motor and vocal tics (not necessarily at the same time) for a year or more. There is also a condition callsed PANDAS that occurs after your child has had a strep infection. Tics develop but go away in time from this condition.
It is very common for all tic disorders to show themselves at puberty. Usually, this the time when the tics will be the worst. But, over time, they often get better. It is not something your son can control (like a sneeze). I encourage you to see a neurologist to talk about this matter and have your son monitored over time. That way, if other symptoms develop, he will be able to get the accomodation he needs in school and elsewhere. It is a very misunderstood disorder that is hard to understand. There are often comorbid conditions like ADHD and OCD behaviors that go along with tic disorders.
There is not a magic pill to cure it...in fact, there is no cure. But, most kids get better on their own in time. If the symptoms become very disruptive, antidepressants and/or seizure medicines have helped some. But, I am not a fan of medicines for TS unless it is very severe. It doesn't sound like your son is in that category. You should read some info on the Tourette's Syndrome Association website. Even if it is only a chronic tic disorer, this site will give you correct information. There are just too many sites out there with the wrong info. or making a joke of the condition. It is no joke when you sweet baby is afflicted by this! It is too bad that more people aren't aware of this condition. Some of the answers you have received to your post is an example of this. It shows a total lack of compassion and spirit of judgment. Here is the link to the TS website:

If you have and other questions about tics, please message me. My daughter has had this for 8 years now and I would be happy to share some things that helped her with you. Best wishes to you and you son!

I am sure there must be a pill to cure you.
LOL and I talk to animals .big and small
I take your comment personally. I hum. lol
Children have weird internal lives, laced with imagination and curiosity. One of my loonies walked like a duck for a month. Fortunately she didn't quack or lay eggs. Should I have taken her to an orthopedist? Are there orthopedists for ducks?
one more thought humming is normal also in case that one pops up, I have a relative humms whenever he tunes out or he doesnt want to listen , he is diagnosed with .........nothing
Margypops might be right about the finger popping. It is certainly less objectionable than the burping which one of my daughters had perfected with her friend.
why does there have to be a treatment' for it ,certainly the wrist and finger popping is done by many kids for fun and to annoy others it becomes a game , , the blinking you may want to get checked out.Is he on any meds ?
