autism or SI

my son Pierce is 3 he was born with bilateral cleft lip/palate and has had 5 or 6 surgeries.  he recently started sp/ed pre-school and is showing very aggressive behavior.  it makes me very sad because he acts like he doesn't understand questions or when we discipline him. Of course he has a speech delay, but he has always been obssesed with having two toys and doesn't really play with the other kids just plays by them.  He is very smart he knows the whole alphabet what letter is what and can rote count to 16.  He makes eye contact though and has been evaluated and diagnosied with sensory issues.  I just don't want to find out in a few years that oh yeah he has HFA.
My biggest concern now is he just doesn't function at school but great at home or in a room with 5 or less people.
help please

Hi, I'm a mother of an Autistic Child PHS4. also tends to be less social when around a group of children. You son seems to be functioning socially in his own past. It is good that he has eye contact, normally this lacks when my child is spoken to or wants your attention. We have our son in therapy for Speech, behaviourl and more. You may want to contact Community living in your area and Erin oak.  They will be able to determin what kind of help you can offer your child. Hope all goes well for you both. sr

As far as treatments or therapies,  are there any differences from what you would offer a child with high functioning autism vs. sensory integration deficit?

The two can be so completely similar,  it doesn't seem necessary at this point that you differentiate the two,  does it?

Best wishes.
