counselor with 4 year old

i am going through a huge custody battle.  the other person has sent my child to a person named Leslie Petruk, MA, LPC, NCC.  after i did research and finding out she is nothing but a counselor, i became concerned.  my child is 4 year old and is acting out, severly acting out.  an alligation came about that some big woman made him pull his pants down - after meeting her she is at least 6' and 200 pounds.  I found out that she is not videotaping nor is she recording anything.  what do i do.  I thought you could not take a child behind closed doors like that.  we live in the state of north carolina.  what can i do?

You would have to check with the statutes in North Carolina to achieve certainty. But, in general, it is certainly both lawful and appropriate for such contact to occur. Recordings of any sort of therapy conversations generally are confined to training purposes or to investigations of allegations of abuse.

You are mistaken about the counseling situation. It is important in therapy, even with young children for face-to-face private convesations and that is to be expected. There are various credentials that mental health professionals possess, and the important thing is that the person be licensed at a level commmensuate with the treatment that is expected and that the person be experienced. Perhaps you are being suspicious when there is no need to be. The best sitiation would be if you and your husband agree on a therapsit or have the court select someone.
