my 21 month old doesn speak

I have a 21 month old son who still doesn't talk. He says a few words but that is it. I've noticed him walking on his toes. He has severe tantrums everyday to the point of him slamming his head into walls and doors. He does not make eye contact with us and he acts as though he can't hear us at times like he is zoned out. I am worried he might have something wrong I don't know what i should do first or what he might have. Can anyone help. I have a 10 yr old that has ADHD, ODD, And he is a lil OCD. So i just want to know what to do for my 2 yr old.

It would be prudent to have him evaluated by a developmental pediatrican.

Hi there! It almost sounds as if your 21mos. old son may have developmental issues'.
You had mentioned your oldest child does. I know that my grandson is ADHD/Asbergers' and as a toddler he acted out the same way. He is on a drug called Respiradol and one other that I cant' think of the name. He just recently seen to Physciatrists' here in Ontario at one of our best hospitals in Kingston. He is now at the age of 11. The new medication has done wonderfully well for him. At one point he was suspended from school more than he was in school. He seen these two Physciatrists' in Sept.2010 and has only been sent home once. It wasn't because he was acting out but the teacher caught the way his mood had changed and decided it best that he go home for the afternoon just to have a quiet time. It worked. He loves school now where before you couldn't bring the topic up to him. I know that you want the best for your child so hopefully your insurance will cover something such as this. Your pediatrician should also know at this point by you telling him/her about your childs' actions'. He/she as well can introduce a medication to see if it helps. I wish you much luck. Take care my friend. Rita

Yes, that is a sensible way to arrange it. Such an evaluation may require a referral from his pediatrician - that depends on your insurance arrangement.
