I posted a question a couple of months ago on my son re: wetting the bed at night.

I have another...
We just started my son on 0.02 DD-AVP at night.  He took 2 tablets and had the WORST night in regards to bedwetting.  There seemed to be a river in the middle of the bed!  He took it again last night, same thing.  Is this normal.  he seems to remember it getting worse before it got better.  We stop all drinks 2 hrs before he goes to bed.  Should i be concerned?

I just called today and was told that the reason the medicine isn't working for him, is because it's not the right one.  I actually called the Urologist's office and that's what I was told.  I did titer him up to .6 last night...it failed.  So, we're off to another medicine and I'll have to titer and dose until it fits my son.  Imipramine was offered.  Imipramine can cause heart problems if you use it long term from what I'd been reading.  So, I'm kind of hesitant to put him on this medicine.

thank you for replying.

It would be appropriate to follow the guidance you have been given by the physician. Giving him .6 mg would be very reasonable. Stay within the prescriber's instructions.

I believe that I wrote the milligrams wrong.  He's taking 0.4mg's..each tablet is 0.2 mg's.  Isn't this .4?  It seems that it is.  Last night, again, he had an accident.  This doesn't seem "right" to me.  I'm just concerned that if I up him to .6, that he may experience the side effects of this drug.  But, given his weight, this may have to happen....is this med given on a condition of one's weight?  The bottle says 2-3 tablet's at bedtime.

any advice would be helpful..
thank you,

This is not an expected reaction to the use of DDAVP, because the activity of this synthetic hormone suppresses the production of urine. Your son may do better at a dose, e.g., of .4 mg - talk about this with the prescribing physician.
